Self Sufficiency

Being self sufficient is a great aspiration, but it's hard work. For my part I like being "almost" self suffiecient.
I love home made soap, and while I can make my own I love that I can buy it at the local craft market and don't have to.
I love hand spun, knitted jumpers, and I love that I can buy them.
The point being that while I am able to do things like make my own soap, shampoo, and can spin wool and knit, and sew, it's easier to buy them and be able to admire others' beautiful handiwork.
Eventually we will be fully solar powered and off the grid, though this might take awhile. Our water supply is tank water, which always makes me a little nervous in summer, but so far we haven't had any drama's with running out of water. We have chickens for eggs and we grow most of our food, but not all of it. I love getting out in the garden and growing food, and bottling (canning) and cooking. As a potter all of our crockery is home made. I make alot of herbal remedies for simple things that don't require a doctor. So we are not self sufficient, but we do a great job of "almost".

I will be adding recipes for making soaps etc... here soon, so come back in the next couple of days to check them out!
