A Short Course in Tracking . . .
Tracking dogs are trained
to follow the scent of any person. The sport is open to
all purebred dogs. In American Kennel Club (AKC) tracking
tests, dogs are required to follow tracks of various
lengths and degrees of difficulty to find articles left
behind the person who laid the track. Successful
completion of the track by the dog and its handler
results in the awarding of various tracking titles issued
by the AKC.
To find out more about
tracking, check out our Training Tips section. If you are interested in
seeing a tracking test or wish to enter your dog, check
out our Tracking Test Dates and entry forms. And, be sure to take a
look at What's a Tracking Test? for a comparison of the
requirements for the three different kinds of tracking
tests.
