I Cannot
I cannot see -
a smile for your own happiness
and I cannot feel -
the caress of your small hand
I cannot taste -
the sweet kiss of our own true love
and I cannot hear -
your footsteps on the ground.
I cannot see -
for your picture is fading
and I cannot feel -
there is no flesh no bone
I cannot taste -
the bitter tears of bad memories
and I cannot hear -
a voice that’s not alone.
I cannot see -
for no light surrounds me
and I cannot feel -
for what has not occurred
I cannot taste -
the blood of my own bitten lip
and I cannot hear -
for there is no sound.
I cannot see
and I cannot feel
I cannot taste
and I cannot hear
and now I cannot stop
the unexpected tear
for you picture has faded
and you are gone.
I lift my hand to my face
brush aside what I do not feel
and to the past
I wave goodbye
goodbye
goodbye
goodbye.
