The Tank

Choosing A Tank

When choosing a tank, it is best to choose one that fits in the space you have and that fits your budget. You can buy them used but you run the ris of having cracks and scratches on it. It is best to buy a new one. Before you start putting water in it, it is always smart to check it for leaks. If your tank does get a leak, you can buy some special aquarium sealer for it. Choose the size and shape of the tank that you personally like. Remember to keep the fish you intend to put in it in mind. The bigger the fish, the bigger the tank. Also, the more fish the bigger the tank. The smaller the tank, the cheaper it is but also the less room you have for the fish and decorations. Larger tanks are more expensive but easier to keep in good condition and the more fish you can put in it. For beginners, I recommend a 10-20 gallon to start off with.

Choosing A Good Place For The Tank

Never put a tank near a window. The sun causes unwanted algea to grow plus the water may overheat, frying your fish and plants. A good place for a tank is against a wall near an outlet. Make sure it's not in a place where a lot of people will be walking. A good thing to remember is to never move a tank with water in it. If you're not carefull, you could crack it and have a big, wet mess to clean up. Make sure you place it on something sturdy enough to hold all the weight of the water. Don't put it on anything wobbley or unstable. It is best to buy an aquarium stand for it. Make sure the stand can support the weight. The tank should be level. Do this by putting a very little amount of water in it and see if the water line is level.
