Capital District Cage Bird Club

      Let me tell you about our pet bird club. We serve the Albany, NY area and average 80 to 90 member families. Our purpose is to educate pet bird owners in the care of their companion birds. We want our feathered friends to have a long and happy life.

      Membership is open to all. People who come to us before purchasing their first bird are welcome but all too rare. Our policy is to include all who have an interest in pet birds and our members include avian vets, breeders, exhibitors, pet store owners and of course those who just enjoy having these lovable rascals as part of their households.

      We have new faces at nearly all of our meetings. Membership dues are fifteen dollars per family and as soon as they join we encourage them to get involved in club activities.

 For a small club we have a great many things going on.

• An annual bird mart ( September)
• Monthly meetings
• Wing clipping clinics on a no charge donation basis
• We run a lost and found bird ad in the four largest newspapers that cover a multi county area.
• A vet trained bird rescue unit.
• A placement service for unwanted or abused birds.
• Widespread distribution of a basic bird care brochure. We offer them for free distribution at veterinary hospitals, pet stores and community bulletin boards.
• Wet clinics. These are conducted by avian vets for a nominal fee and teach wing clipping, toenail clipping, first aid, advanced bird care such as administering injections, and a study of bird anatomy featuring dissection (for the stout hearted).
• Annual club picnic and end of year party.
