IGNACIOCYNTHIA |
Andrew John Mark |
When Cynthia was about 10 years old she went to Washington State to live with her sister Helen and Bob Spears when their boy Raymond died. It was while they were living there that Mom and Garrett Givens were married, giving her a new step-dad. Also, while living there and attending the Baptist church in Elma that Cynthia made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ her Savior. This was the beginning of preparing for a career as a missionary, and ultimately teaching and preparing others for the mission field.
Cynthia married Ignacio Palacios 26 Dec 1980, and to them were born two boys, Andrew and John Mark. Both boys were born in Kansas City, KS. Cynthia and her family went to Victoria, Mexico as missionaries for two years. Cynthia worked as a substitute teacher in Weslaco, TX, while Ignacio completed his Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
In 1989 for four years, Cynthia and family lived in Hobe Sound, Florida where she and Ignacio were both teaching in the Hobe Sound Bible College. They returned to Weslaco, TX where they both taught in the Latin American Bible Institute. The boys attended school there. In June 1995, Cynthia and the family left their home in Weslaco, TX and relocated to Hobe Sound, Florida where they purchased a new home. They both have plans for furthering their education and began to implement those plans. In 1996 Cynthia began to work on her Masters in Languages. For the summer of 1997 the family will temporarily stay in Pennsylvania where Ignacio begins working on his Phd in Languages.
Cynthia has a gift for telling stories that enrapture not only the very young, but the adults as well. At the family reunions she very dramatically tells stories from the Old Testament. Her young son Andrew has inherited this same gift for telling stories.
Ignacio completed his first book--written in Spanish--on Apparel of the Bible, as it relates to Biblical concepts. The book was published in 1996. Ignacio is currently translating the manuscript into English and there are plans to have it translated in Chinese.
In 1995-1996 Cynthia and Ignacio began to face lots of trials. Ignacio was diagnosed as having MS and Cynthia had surgery for cervix cancer. By the winter of 1997 Ignacio is doing quite well, walks primarily with a cane, but uses a walker at times. He is still able to continue with his teaching at the College and fully supported by the school administration.
Cynthia came through surgery wonderfully. Her sister Gay came from Missouri to spend a few weeks with her before and after surgery. This was a tremendous help to her. The doctors feel they have removed all signs of the surgery and she did not have to undergo any type of treatment. Truly a Praise to God!
In the winter of 1997, Cynthia entertained four of her sisters and brother-in-laws. Was a wonderful time there in Florida, spent hours at the beach on the Atlantic Ocean. She also had a special tea and invited friends for her sister Helen to share from her book Married to My Husband.
