VERNE ALVA WIGGIN was born 3 Oct 1929 just 16 months later than brother George, in Bayard, Nebraska. Don't know who Verne was named after, but the name "ALVA" comes from his Grandpa Alvie Williams. While all members of the family played instruments from the time they were small, Verne excelled in playing the trumpet, which he still plays very eloquently. He also mastered the violin and frequently performs in church with both the violin and the trumpet. Verne graduated from Southwest City highschool in 1948. After graduation, he headed west to Washington State where his grandparent Williams lived, in Shelton. There he went to work at the Simpson Logging Company where he worked for several years. Later he went to work at Simpsons in Tillamook, Oregon.

Verne married Grace Chalmers at Violet Priarie, WA, to them were born seven children. Grace's parents were Thomas Chalmers and Christina Maner who were married in Tacoma, WA on 3 Jul 1924. Grace's brothers and sisters were: Harrison, Anna Lela, Luther, Alma, Pearl, Mayta Matilda and Martha Louise. Verne and Grace divorced after 20 1/2 years of marriage. Verne and his family pastored churches in many states while the children were growing up. Some of these states were Oregon, Indiana, Wyoming, Utah, and New Mexico.

Verne later married Ruth Sallee and settled in Tulsa, OK. Ruth's son Roger died in 1988. Linda, Ruth's daughter, a registered nurse, lives in Arizona. Verne and Ruth completely remodeled Ruth's house in Tulsa, it is lovely. Ruth retired from AT&T after several years service. Verne recently retired from his landscaping and home maintenance business. In December 1993 Verne and Ruth moved to their "new" home still in the Tulsa, OK. area. Verne was employed at shop foreman and was a new-car-service manager for various car dealers in Tulsa, Ok. He also did missionary work in southern Old Mexico where he made three trips and spent several weeks working in this area.

Verne's seven children are David Leroy, Elaine Leoma, Leslie Verne, Deborah Sue, Perry Dee, Martha Jean and Nathan Bruce. All of these as children and as adults play musical instruments: trumpet, guitar, flute, clarinet, flugal horn, and piano; in addition they have beautiful musical voices. This same musical talent is being passed on to the next generation with Stephanie on the flute, and Mike on the trumpet.
