The Mello lines
(de Mello)
I have recently obtained information on this family line going back several generations in the Azore Islands but I need to do more research. I am not going to list all because it is confusing. I will list my Great-Grandfather Antonio Silveira de Mello III and work backwards a few generations and then list my Great-Grandmother Rita Thomazia de Mello and work back a few generations there also. [3 generations back, Antonio Silveira de Mello I (the grandfather to Antonio Silveira de Mello III) and Anna do Nascimento de Mello (the grandmother to Rita Thomazia de Mello) were sister and brother. That is the reason Rita's maiden name was the same as her married name.]
[To avoid repeating, all of the following births, marriages and deaths took place in Terra do Pao, Pico, Azore Islands.]
**Great Grandfather:Antonio Silveira de Mello III was born 24 April 1838; m. Rita Thomazia de Mello*(see below) 29 January 1866; d. 1916.
Antonio Silveira de Mello II b. 22 December 1784; m. Thereza de Jesus Nunes 13 Oct 1823; d. 22 June 1847.
Antonio Silveira de Mello I b. 23 January 1751; m. Perpetua Maria ? 30 March 1775; d. 23 October 1822
Manoel Fereyra de Mello b. 15 November 1710; m. Thereza do Nascimento Sylveira 23 Nov. 1739; d. 3 Oct. 1790
*Great Grandmother:Rita Thomazia de Mello b. 28 Oct. 1835; d.17 Oct.1897.
Her Parents: Jose Sebastiao de Mello b. 15 March 1795; m. Ritta Thomazia Madruga 23 Nov. 1823; d. 25 Sept.1869
Jose's parents: (he evidently took his mother's name) Sebastiao Silveira Gularte b. 25 Oct 1753; m. Anna do Nascimento de Mello 26 Feb. 1775; d. 22 Jan. 1837.
**Note: Anna's parents were Manoel Fereyra de Mello and Thereza do Nascimento Sylveira.
Now to my Grandfather Mello (the name was changed from de Mello to Mello when he came to the United States at age 17)
Manuel Silveira Mello was b. 12 April 1870 in Terra do Pao, Pico, Azore Islands; married Grace Givan 26 December 1898 in Fort Jones, Siskiyou Co., CA; died 19 November 1939 in Siskiyou Co.,CA
They had 7 children: Agnes Rita, Mary Martha, Carl Joseph, Manuel Silveira II, Angelena Grace, Josephine Elizabeth, and Eleanor. (Eleanor died at the age of 3 months.)
****Special thanks goes to my 'Quad Cousin' Doris Mello for all of the family information going back so many generations in the Azore Islands. She has done 'spectacular' research. (Her grandfather Jose Sebastiao de Mello III [b.1874] and my grandfather Manuel Silveira de Mello were first cousins) THANK YOU, DORIS! Over the years my mother, Ann, and my Aunt Jo have given me family information as well as pictures that I appreciate immensely. Thanks also to my Mello Cousins for sharing information on their individual families and to cousins Bruce & Joanne Mello and Jim Mello for getting me in touch with Doris Mello. Thank you all.
