The Whitmer lines
The information I have obtained on this WHITMER line is that Michael Witmer, Jr. came to America on September 19, 1732 from the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland. He reported to his family of land to be homesteaded and other opportunities to be had. The same year he obtained a patent deed for 247 acres in Hempfield, PA (later known as Manor Township) and reared his family there.
In 1733 Michael Witmer, Sr. (age 65)[father to the above Michael] came with three more sons [Michael Jr's. brothers] Ulrich 31, Peter 21 and John 20.
NOTE: The German spelling of WITMER was later changed to WHITMER.
Michael Whitmer, Jr. moved to Manor Township, Lancaster Co., PA, where he died in 1763, leaving a widow, Barbara. He was married twice and Barbara was the second wife. His children were: [1st marriage]Anna, Magdalena, Barbara;[2nd marriage]Frena, Catherine, Maria, Elizabeth, and John.
John Whitmer b. Lancaster Co, PA 1752; m. Catherine Valde Tarwater b.1760; Children: Jacob P., John, Catharine, Valentine (Felty), Mary Eva, Margaret, Elizabeth and Michael. ~~ John and Catherine both d. in Muhlenberg Co., KY--he in 1828 and she in 1838.
Jacob Philip Whitmer b. 1778 in Lancaster Co., PA; m. in Botetaurt Co.,VA 1800 to Catharine Short b.1774. Children: John, Sally, Catherine (Caty), Evy, Jacob Jr., David, Daniel W., and Michael James. ~~ Jacob & Catharine d. in Muhlenberg Co., KY -- he in 1854 and she in 1855.
Evy Whitmer b. 1807 m. in Muhlenberg Co.,KY.1837 to Thomas Combs. Children: Ephriam, Peter, Albert G., Sarah (Sally), Eliza and Daniel. ~~ Evy (Whitmer)and Thomas Combs both d. in Clark Co., MO.--she in 1901 at age 94; and he in 1865.
[It should be noted that Sally Whitmer, older sister of Evy, first m. Thomas Combs in 1824. Children: Jacob, Catherine, Lucinda, Martin, Andrew and Matilda. It is also noted that Sally and the child Matilda both d. on the same date in 1834.]
