Our Trip to Callaway Gardens Butterfly Conservatory: Pine Mountain Georgia
May 1999
We couldn't find anywhere to eat! There were NO McDonalds, NO Burger Kings. Just a little rinky-dink hamburger shack adjoining a liquor store. Mr. Terry did NOT want to park our church van in the liquor store parking lot, so we didn't eat there! We could have eaten in the park, but it would be very expensive. We finally found a tiny sandwhich grill in town.
It was a fun trip. There were all kinds of flowers, everything you could imagine. In the butterfly house, we saw all kinds of butterflies, they were everywhere! They landed on us and you could even catch them by holding out your fingers. We saw a parrot and some other tropical birds and even some tiny hummingbirds flying around inside. The only bad part about it was the humidity! It was stifling hot inside with machines spraying mist everywhere. You could hardly breathe and you couldn't stay in there for too long before it became unbearable. I guess the butterflies liked it, though. It was worse than Georgia in July. When it was time to leave, there was a fan to blow off hitchhiking butterflies before you exited out the door. Everyone's hair was a big droopy, mess! No hairspray could have withstood that kind of humidity!
