Are Millions of Christians not Going to Heaven? |
Now that I have your attention, allow me to answer this question.
There are many trends in today's Christianity, which preachers teach from the pulpits, but these trends have never saved a soul. And they never will.
Please don't mistake this as an attack on any person or church in particular. I know some denominational preachers who are very good people, but I believe that Truth is truth and must be told. A church must preach 100 percent truth in order to save souls. If you believe in these trends, please continue reading and see why I make such an assertion. If I did not have Biblical Scripture to back my position, I would not make this claim.
|
What are some of these trends? |
- Easy Believe-ism Sometimes this is simply confessing Christ
- Simply Confessing Christ
- Baptism in the titles "Father, Son and Holy Spirit"
- Trinitarianism
- New Age Beliefs

Easy Believe-ism |
Note:Please use the Bible link to the left. It will open a new window with a searchable
copy of the Bible. This includes various editions and translations.
Easy believe-ism is the idea that all you need to do is believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and you will go to heaven. This generally goes hand in hand with the idea of simply confessing Christ as Lord and Savior. But what does the Bible say about this?
The passages people generally use to make these assertions are John 3:16 and Romans 10:9. Since nearly everyone knows John 3:16, I won't print it here. But let us look at Romans. "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
The word translated as confess is Homologeo. It means to "assent; i.e. covenant; acknowledge. Confession is made, give thanks, promise. Interestingly enough, this is a combination of two Greek words which mean "word, treatise, work" and "together."
The word used for believe is Pisteuo in Greek. It is defined as "To have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing) i.e. credit; by implication to entrust (especially one's spiritual well-being) Commit.
With these two definitions, let us re-examine the quote. "If thou shalt promise to keep the covenant with the Lord Jesus, and shalt have faith that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Now, I am not adding or taking anything away from this passage. If we look at the next verse, we see that it says that "for with the heart, man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation." By looking at these two scriptures with the above definitions of the words, it is obvious that it does not mean simply speaking the words will save a person. When somebody follows the above scripture, it will have a dramatic effect on his or her life. Believing it in your heart, means living it. Committing your life to Christ; handing the reins over to him and allowing him to drive you wherever HE wants you to go. Confessing it, means promising to keep the covenant that Christ made with man. Remember, in the past, God made covenants with the Israelites. When He made his covenant with Abraham, all the males had to be circumcised as a profession of that covenant. Later, in the same chapter, it says there is no difference between Jew and Gentile. So rather than needing to be circumcised in the New Covenant, it was an oral act to express one's agreement with God's Will. Bear in mind though, that this does not save people. If it did, Christ never would have said "
Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matt 7:21)
In Matt 25, we have the parable of the virgins. When the door is shut and five virgins are locked out, they say "Lord, Lord, open to us." And Jesus responds
"
Verily I say unto you, I know you not."
So Christ himself has forewarned us that not everyone who confesses him as Lord will make it into heaven. He will turn those people away saying
"I never knew you."
Another thing which needs to be pointed out is that just because YOU
may accept Christ as your personal savior, does not mean that
HE
accepts you. The Bible tells us to make ourselves sacrifices, Holy unto Him. If you are not living a holy life, or sacrificing your life to Him, what obligation is God under to you? Now some will say "wait a minute– sacrifice my whole life? What about work? Bills? Etc?" By sacrificing your entire life, I mean doing whatever it is God wants you to do. If he says "give up reading romance novels," give them up. If he says "give up that job you have with the beer distributer," then give it up. God will always make a way for you. Just because he closes one door, does not mean he will not open another. Listen to God and do what he commands. That is sacrificing your life to Him.
As a last point, Jesus told us "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." (Mark 16:16)
Notice that Jesus tied baptism in with salvation. If baptism were not a necessary part of salvation, Christ never would have mentioned it. Also, in the Great Commission, Jesus commanded baptism as you will see.
| Baptism in the Titles |
What's wrong with this?
In Acts 2:38, Peter was exhorting to the people. They asked what they needed to do in order to be saved, and peter said "Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Was Peter speaking on his own authority? Heavens, no. Jesus told them in the book of Matthew to take no thought of what they shall speak because "it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you." Peter was speaking by the authority of the Holy Ghost! If the Holy Ghost says be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, who are we to argue?
Trinitarians will point to Matt 28:19 when Jesus said "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." Now, notice, this does not say in the NAMES with an "S". It says in the NAME. What is the name of the Father?
Is 9:6, foretelling of Christ's arrival says that Jesus will be "the Everlasting Father." So Jesus is the name of the Father. And Jesus is the name of the Son. And speaking of the Holy Ghost, Jesus said "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." Who is the Comforter? The Holy Ghost AND Jesus, if Jesus IS the Holy Ghost, then what is the name of the Holy Ghost? Jesus. So to baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, is to baptize in the name of Jesus Christ. Every instance in the book of Acts, whenever anyone was baptized, it was done in the name of the Lord Jesus, or the name of Jesus Christ, etc. There is not one instance where anybody was baptized in the titles Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
If we read Acts 4:12, we read "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." So how did this grand lie begin?

A Brief Discussion on Trinitarianism |
Before the Nicene Council (325 AD), the doctrine of the Trinity in Christianity did not exist as dogma. (Though it was around late in the third century, it was a new concept.) Most people were known as Modalists, which means they believed in One God in three different administrations. This is perfectly scriptural.
I Cor. 12:5 tells us, "There are differences of administrations, but the same Lord." Tertullian made the comment that the majority of believers had a Oneness view and were awed by the doctrine of three-in-one. While trying to convert the pagans who believed in many gods, the Catholic church decided to adopt some of paganism to help their conversion. According to Hislop,(author of The Two Babylons nearly all religions are based on the Babylonian Mysteries.
In Babylon, there was a holy trinity consisting of Osiris, Isis, and Horus. These figures were based on the first apostate after the flood which was Nimrod, his wife– Semiramis– and her child, Horus. The mythology had it that after Osiris was killed, Isis went out to the woods and was impregnated by the holy ghost (of Osiris) and therefore, her child was both her son and her husband. These three made up the godhead. Catholicism adopted this and created what we call Trinitarianism today.
The basic tenets of Trinitarianism is that there are three persons in the godhead. Each is co-equal and co-eternal. Although I cannot prove Trinitarianism via the Bible, I can prove the Oneness of God. I will, however, use the scriptures Trinitarians point to in order to prove their point. Gen 1:26 says "And God said let us make man in our image." The main argument the Jews have with Christianity is that they believe when the Messiah comes, He will be God in the flesh, not a second person. They believe this passage in Genesis is referring to God counseling with his own will.
If we look at the next verse, we see that it says "so God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him." Notice that there is only ONE image to which God created man. If there were three gods in the godhead, the passage would read "so God created man in their own images." But it doesn't read this.
Another passage Trinitarians like to quote is Mark 16:19 "he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God." This sounds pretty self-explanatory, but the phrase is not what it seems. It is an idiom. Much like we have the same phrase, "a right hand man." The book of the Revelation tells us "a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne." (4:2) This was referring to Christ. In 4:4 it says "and round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting."
This vision of heaven supports the fact that the Mark reference was an idiom. It does so by showing us that there are not two or three thrones; that Jesus is not sitting beside God, but rather, is surrounded by twenty-four elders.
So how can anyone prove there is only one God? It's easy. First, think of the first commandment. "I am the LORD thy God...thou shalt have no other gods before me." If Jesus was a separate god, wouldn't this have read "we are the LORDS thy GODS?" But in Is. 44:8 God says "Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any." So God himself has said there was no one up there with him. This by itself is enough to destroy the Trinitarian belief, but there is more.
Deut. 6:4 says "Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God is one Lord." Not three...ONE. Why was Christ crucified? Was it for claiming to be the Son of God? If you said "no" you are correct.
Christ was not crucified for claiming Sonship, but was crucified for claiming to BE God. In John 8:24 Jesus said "if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins." When one looks in the KJV, they will see that "he" is italicized, which means the writers put it in for clarification. If you take the exact words of Christ, they read "if ye believe not that I am, ye shall die in your sins."
In Exod 3:14 God said to Moses "I AM that I AM." God was known as the great "I AM." And Jesus made the same claim.
In John 14:7, 9 Jesus says "If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth, ye know him, and have seen him...he that hath seen me hath seen the Father." What does this claim mean? It means when you look at Jesus you look at God. Why? Because JESUS IS GOD! You cannot take One God and make three and still have one! It's as simple as that! Why is the Trinity a thing of faith? Because they can't prove it. There is not one iota of scripture that stands against the Truth. The Bible says "Let God be true, but every man a liar." (Rom 3:4) If God said he's ONE what man can say otherwise?
As a last point, let us look at John 20:28. After Thomas saw the resurrected Christ, and placed his hands in the wounds, Thomas dropped down and said "My Lord and my God." Thomas recognized Jesus for who he was. If Thomas was wrong, Christ would have corrected him. But Christ DIDN'T correct him, because Thomas wasn't wrong.
| Knowing this, what must we do to be saved? |
"REPENT, AND BE BAPTIZED EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS, AND YE SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST." (Acts 2:38)
