We just returned from a fifty mile trip to Gassy, Lauderdale Co., AL. Grassy is about fifty miles west of Meridianville where we live. We found one Cemetery, Grassy Cemetery of all things. It is on the north side of Alabama H'way 64 next to Grassy Memoria Chapel. We found one very interesting double tomb Stone. It reads Marion H. Barton 1861 - 1937 and Ida Barton 1872 - 1952. Did anyone know Marion H. married again after Mary F. Chamberless Barton died in 4/30/1915? We do not know the Maiden name of Ida arton. They are the only Bartons in the Cemetery.
From Debby: You have certainly been busy finding good clues lately! I wonder if any descendants still live around Grassy?

Comments:
Martha J. tyra/tyree is found on the 1880 Census for Marion co. with three sons: Manuel A."Buck" Tyra/Tyree, J. Joshua, and William Homer. Two of the sons are found on the 1900 census of Wiston Co. at Double Springs. M.A. Buck Tyra married Della Cockrell on Apr. 23, 1893. William Homer married Sarah Jane Pigg on Feb 24 1897. I would appreciate any info or assistance you could provide. I have an aunt Ada Webb who still lives in Double Springs, who has provided some background on Great-grand parents however she could not recall Martha J. Tyra/Tyree's husbands name or what her aiden name was. She thought is was Beazzel, Beasley. or Bazzel.
From Debby: There were several Martha Beasley's listed on the 1860 census of Winston Co. 1. One Martha was 21 years old, born in NC, listed in the household of Silas Beasley who was 65, b. NC. 2. A 2 years old Martha, b. AL, listed in the household of Silas M. Beasley who was 36 and born in NC. 3. A three year old Martha, b. AL, listed in the household of William Beasley, 33, NC. 4. There was also a Martha ? who md. Joseph Beasley (28; NC). Lila Ann Harris, a Barton descendant md. Clarence Tyree and had children: Adene, Hester, Earl, Othene and Ruth. I don't know if any of these may be related to your Tyree's.

Question of the Barton Clan In March 1861 {William Marion Henry} Marion H. Barton and In February 1864 {Andrew Jackson Jonathan} J. J. Barton was born, we have for years speculated as to whose children they were. In the back of most everyone mind we had the idea they were the sons o William Henry and Martha Weaver Barton. (According to Hoole in "Alabama Tories" Barton, William H. Pvt. Co. L 1st ALA Cal. Andersonville died a POW 9/1/1864 ) Martha Weaver Barton was the Daughter of Peter and Martha Weaver. A grave stone in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, In Sacried Memory of Martha Barton Formly Weaver was born Oct 30 AD 1840 Died March 28th AD 1871 age 30 years 4 month 28 days. This Grave is next to Peter Weaver, his Grave stone Peter Weaver husband of Armindia Weaver born Apr 6 1812 died Dec 25 1877. In book 8 of deeds of Winston Co., AL on pages 497-499 is a conveyance of land belonging to Peter Weaver. The date is November 7, 1886 on the affidavit. The signers were Benjamin Weaver, A.J. Weaver (mark), John Weaver, E.A.M. Weaver (mark), S.M. Weaver, .E. Weaver, W.M. Davis, H.A. Davis (mark), L.H. Davis , A.J. Davis (mark) E Cagle (mark), M.E. Cagle (mark), Arminda Weaver(mark), N.E. Peter and Martha are buried next to one another. Martha E. Weaver is buried on his other side, She died on March 28, 1871. So Martha died 1st then Ma tha E. Weaver Barton. Samuel Weaver His wife M.E. Weaver (daughter of Peter and Martha Weaver) Rosella A. Moody (daughter of Peter and Arminda Weaver) Her husband J.Z. Moody J.J. Barton (grand son of Peter and Martha Weaver) His wife V.J. Barton M. H. Barton (brother of J.J. Barton therefore grand son of Peter and Martha Weaver) His wife M.F. Barton You ask how we can state J.J. and M.H. Barton as the grandsons of Peter and Martha Weaver. We know that Henry Weaver and Martha Weaver Barton are siblings. They are the children of Peter and Martha Weaver. Also J.J. Barton is listed in the 1880 Winston Co., Al census in the household of Henry Weaver as nephew. J.J. and M.H. are brothers. Would this not make them the grandsons of Peter and Martha Weaver?
From Debby: What we really need to straighten this matter up is the 1850 & 1860 census for the Peter Weaver family. We need to find out for sure if he had a daughter named Nancy who was old enough to be the mother of Marion and Andrew [Jonathan] Jackson Barton. Des endants of Peter Weaver have said Peter's dau., Nancy md. a Barton. Descendants of Jackson and Marion say they've been told their ancestor was Nancy (Weaver) Barton. The problem is, according to the 1870 census, Nancy was only 12 years old. At that time, Jackson was 7 years old. The only way Nancy Weaver) Barton (the dau. of Peter Weaver and the niece of Henry Weaver) could be the mother of Jackson and Marion was if Peter Weaver had two daus. named Nancy. That sounds far-fetched, but Marion had two bros.-in-law named John Chambless. I've come across several other families who named two children in their family the same name. I don't believe there were two Nancy's. I think Martha Weaver an William H. Barton were the parents of Jackson and Marion, but it would be nice to get hold of the 1850 and 1860 census for the Peter Weaver family. Peter Weaver bought land in Winston Co. in 1859, but I don't find a listing for him in the 1860 census. There was a Peter Weaver in the 1850 GA census, but I've never looked him up and don't know if he's the Peter Weaver we need.

Do you have the dates on Moses Barton. Doing research in Winston Co., AL this week I crossed a deed where a Mosses and his wife Martha A. Barton sold land to a William M. Jackson. The date was January 19, 1876. Winston County Book of deeds 8 pages 4/5. Wa this Mosses Barton the one from Walker Co., AL. or descendent of his owning land in Winston Co.
From Debby: Moses, the son of James Allen Barton, the son of Moses ( the patriarch of the Walker Co. Bartons), was living in Winston Co. during the 1870 census. He was md. to Martha Fry, the sister of Caleb Fry who md. Martha Elizabeth League. Caleb was the father of Simon Kimsey Fry who md. Sarah Ann Harris, the dau. of Francis and Delila (Barton) Harris. [Delila who was the dau. of Willis.] Martha E izabeth League Fry was the sister of Cicero who md. Margaret Barton, dau. of Willis. Martha was also the sister of Robert who md. Margaret Barton, the dau. of Jonathan, the son of Willis. Quite a tangle, but, to get back to the Moses who lived in Winsto Co., he's the one who moved to OK and lived so close to my Bartons. My family always referred to him as "Uncle Mose." They knew he was related, but couldn't quite figure out how. Now for another puzzler: Can anyone identify #42 enumerated in the 1860 Winston Co. Census as follows: Early Barton 30; AL Laura 21; AL James 5; AL Mary 3; AL William 2/12; AL Although I've come across several Early Bartons, I haven't been able to figure out who this one is.

His father (my grand-dad) was born vic Dallas TX. My great-grand-dad came to TX due to having killed a man with a knife in Mississippi over a calf. Although my grand-dad joined the Methodist Church due to influence of the circuit riders, we are unsure if we were Anglicans or Catholics (since we were Scot-Irish or Irish, from what I understand). In Augusta A, there is a British pub that has two huge graphics of England and of Ireland, and the name BARTON is pin-pointed on both. I retired from the Army at Ft BRagg, NC. Hello to all Bartons! Dear Sir or Madam, I need help! I am new at this searching for ancesters having inheirited a great deal of information. However I have a John Thrasher bn abt.1761 died abt.1840 married to a Susan Barton. They had ten Children if that information would help in identifying hem. John was born in Virgina, then moved to Georgia. This is what my history says of Miss Susan Barton. "He married a Miss susan Barton , Whose Father was killed by the indians in Daniel Boones first Expedition into Kentucky." Does that help Identify her parents at all? I found a John Thrasher on the Montgomery, Alabama.(A place where a lot of Thrashers lived!)Do you have his conecction? It wasn't clear on that page how you fit him in! I would be eternally grateful for any information that you could steer my way! If it is your line continuing down. I would be happy to share the continuing generations that I have! Grandma told us her maiden name was Reeves, Maggie Estella Reeves, and her twin sister was named Margaret Esther Reeves. They were born on December 1 1887, in Ocala, Florida. Sometime in early life Grandma's twin sister, Margaret Esther, was murdered. The family also lived in Greenville, South Carolina. Grandma married William Alexander Howey in San Francisco, California on November 23, 1911. On her marriage certificate, her maiden name is not listed as Reeves, but as Barton. She told us her husband was k lled after being run down by a hit and run driver in San Francisco in 1911. Grandma then went by the name Estella Howey. She raised her three children by herself in San Francisco, California. William Delbert Howey, Madge Harriet Howey Silva, and Verenna A veretta Howey Gibbons. Grandma said a brother of hers owned a Family Bible containing their family history. Who was her brother? Was he a Reeves or was he a Barton? She said her father's name was William Reeves and her mother was Netta Smith. Her Marriage certificate says her father was William Barton. She also used the last name of Carstons. Grandma died in 1979 in California. Please help us find our Grandma's REAL name. Without it, we can't find her genealogy!

Hi. My mother has been doing library research for years on the Bartons. We have been unable to place her in any family that is proven Mary Ann Barton b. 1/23/1834 d. She is my great/great/great grandmother. She married a John Abner Dill, this old goat we t off to the civil war & instead of coming home he went off & married several times without benefit of divorce. Leaving Mary to fend for herself and the kids. She was living in Bullard, Texas. her daughter Martha Ann Dill married WW Davis in the Bullard Texas area they had 1. William L. Davis 2. Emmett Davis 3. Tishe Lou Davis. William L Davis married Ellen Smith they had 7 children Bently Davis married Ruth Spivey and had 3 children Martha L. Davis married Eddie Hemphill they had a child Martha R.(me) Hemphill who married Clyde Moorehead. My grandmother lived in the house with Martha Ann Dill/Davis, she said that grandma Davis wouldn't allow no one to speak of her father after the way he had ran off and left her mom. Little is know about Mary Ann Barton the birth date has been passed down from Martha Ann Dill/Davis to her son wife then his son & wife to my mother to me. Someone doing the family history had Mary Barton in a family but could not prove it. The woman said that it was the only family in the area that would have a child that age. I don't understand. I just know that we haven't been able to find her located anywhere in a family prior to her marriage in Walker Co. Alabama. I am new to this. Any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated. Comments:
I am descended from Peggy Barton (c1751 - 1813) daughter of Joshua Barton (d. 1767) of Hill Top, and grand-daughter of William Barton also of Hill Top, she was sister of John Barton who with his son William were also of Hill Top. Hill Top is a farm in Woodford, in the district of Prestbury in Cheshire, England. Woodford is now on the edge of Manchester, on the Cheshire Lancs boarders. There was another Barton family also of Woodford, from whom the Bartons of Saxby Hall descend, this family has a tree back to a William Barton (d. 1588). We do not know of a connection between the two families. The Barton of Saxby Hall tree is in Burke's Landed Gentry, Has anyone researched these families?"

I am just beginning to research my husband's family and have very little information to go on. The name that I have entered is my husband's grandmother who was from near Tuscaloosa Al and I am told had a farm. I am going to include what sketchy info. I have in the hope that somebody has a piece to my puzzle. Effie Mae Barton was born in June of 1919 and had(as far as I know) two sisters and a brother. Both sisters are still living in AL. Their names are Tommie and Em- Em was at one time married to Frank Lary a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers in the fifties. he brothers name is Barry Barton. I believe the father's name was John, or Thomas and the mother's name was Hattie? Effie moved to Pensacola in 1935 when she eloped with my husband's grandfather.
