WILLIE RUTH WEDDINGTON KENDALL

In Memory of Mrs. Fred Plyler by Mrs. Georgie Dean Stegall

December 29, 1978, marks a sad day in the life of many people for it was then that a dear friend, neighbor and fellow church member received her summons to come Home - To that place eternal in the heavens, which had been in preparation for her coming since before the foundation of the world. Now the great transition has been made and she is at peace.

At last she has been released and relieved from an earthly life fraught with pain and suffering, sorrow, and sadness, anxieties and distresses of every conceivable kind into the loving and receiving hands of Christ her Savior to dwell with Him forever more. In this knowledge we can and do rejoice.

Mrs. Plyler, (Ruth, as many called her), loved people and she had many friends. She always expressed compassion and concern for those not blessed with as much of this world goods, and she was generous in reaching out to them whatever the need.

During the years she owned and operated her florist shop. Many lovely flowers, pot plants and arrangements were shared not only with friends, but also with those whom she reached out to, hoping to bring something of beauty and sunshine into their lives.

She always made flowers available to be placed in the sanctuary of her own church when needed.

Mrs. Plyler loved to entertain friends in her home. Often times she would have a group in for the afternoon with gay laughter and delicious refreshments. At other times a sit-down noonday luncheon was the order of the day and always pleasant fellowship and delightful food was enjoyed to those invited; she loved to cook.

Ruth Plyler was always thoughtful and kind to older people, especially those who were sick. It was her pleasure to prepare and deliver many bowls of soup, trays and nourishing food to the sick and shut-ins of her town, along with a visit to cheer them on their way toward recovery.

She was a loyal and faithful member of Marshville Presbyterian Church and a regular attendant many times when she was not physically able to present.

Mrs. Plyler is survived by one daughter, Shirley Ruth Plyler Tice, and two grandchildren, Jamie and Tammy Lee Tice. She had been living with her daughter in Lexington, NC for two or more years and of recent months in St. Augustine, FL.

During the months she was away from Marshville she kept in touch with many friends through correspondence. She was interested in everything that took place in the town she loved so much.

For the past month she had been seriously ill and she died quietly in her sleep on Friday night, December 29, 1978.We have missed her these many months and we shall continue to do so, but we feel grateful for the good memories as we realize that even though her physical presence is not among us now, her entrance to that place called Heaven makes us feel even closer to her as we try to live in such a way that we too shall gain entrance through the same portals which she so recently has passed through.
