This is Kira. This little darling has already used up 2 of her 9 lives...and she's only a year and 3 months old. She was born on a farm up in Wingham, on October 15, 1996. Our dog Gina immediately adopted her as her own when we brought the kitten home.
The first occurence in which Kira used up one of her lives was when she got caught in a ball of twine. Gina alerted me that something was wrong, by running to me and then out of the living room repeatedly and whining. I followed her into the dining room where I found a semi-conscious kitten strangled in twine. The rope was so tight around her neck I had difficulty getting scissors under it to break her free. Afterward, she was fine, and I've never left any kind of string lying around again!!!
The second occurence was much more serious. We had to rush Kira over to the vet one afternoon after finding her lethargic all morning and then collapsing in the hallway. After many tests and X-rays, the vet strongly suggested we do exploratory surgery, which we agreed on. The vet discovered that this silly cat had eaten a long piece of nylon from an old comforter the dog was using as a bed. The piece of nylon was stuck at the base of her stomach, and all through her intestines. The nylon had started to cut through various areas of her intestines. The vet was astonished when he opened Kira's belly and saw her intestines all bunched up like the top of a curtain when it's pulled opened. She was on 24 hour watch at the emergency ward for 4 days, and the vet said he didn't think she'd make it. Well, she did. She's healthy, happy and driving the dog nuts. Needless to say, I've thrown out the old comforter the dog used as a bed (she has a new bed).
