The Choate Family
When family history
experts explain how to begin researching your family, they usually tell
you to begin with yourself and move backwards. Well, here I am!
My name is Robbi. I have to go back a couple of generations
to find the Choate name in my ancestors. But that is how I got interested
in the research of my ancestors to begin with.
My great great grandmother, Emma
Orilla Choate Goode, was said to be 100% Cherokee Indian. I found
that quite interesting. The story is that at one time she might have
been eligible for some free land if she could prove her indian heritage.
However, she could not find the document that would prove she was indian.
My great aunt says that was the only time she saw her mother cry.
That is what really piqued my interest. However, researching indian
ancestry is proving to be quite difficult. But even so, I am hooked.
This project of mine will continue to be a work in progress. I do it to exchange information on my family lines with other researchers. Family history is truly a fascinating hobby!
