Books About Dog Training

This marvelous book tells how a car-chasing, useless pup was transformed into a magnificient dog. Anecdotes of the process are used as parables to show us how even some of our worst characteristics can be a blessing, when we stop trying to use them in self-serving ways and use them to serve God's will and purposes. I highly reccomend this book for anyone in a 12 step program, or for anyone attempting to train a stockdog. Emphasis on time, routine, repetition, consistency.
William Koehler thought his is the only correct method for every person and every dog. NOT so! But, the truth is that his training techniques are the basis for easily two thirds of all the training manuals on the market. His methods were never meant to be used on puppies or any "sensitive" and "eager to please" dog. English Shepherd owners are advised to consult Basic Training Tips for English Shepherds. Hardcover.

I love my dog so much and we have such a bond that I have to admit that, like so many people who love their pets, I have been guilty of trying to see only the human attributes in her.No wonder training has been progressing so slowly! Jean Donaldson's book has given me a whole new perspective - to appreciate dogs in their own unique way, and to finally realize that they are another species of being, not just children in fur! Thanks, Jean- and I am sure my dog would thank you too - she has been trying to be a dog but I have insisted on trying to make her a human. RETURN AND ORDER HERE PLEASE Paperback.

Other Books about Dogs

Although we do not have a cover picture, these books are highly recommended:

The Working Border Collie
by Marjorie Quarton and Carole L. Presburg

This book is by Bruce Fogle, DVM., a London vet from Canada who also wrote the book,The Dog's Mind. After studying the 400 breeds listed here, one wonders whether the job done on the other book can be complete, as Dr. Fogle has omitted the breeds of English Shepherd and Welsh Sheepdog! The breeds covered are systematically rated as to their suitability to different lifestyles. I found this a first rate, informative book.
