Relaxing on Peggy's Porch
reminds me I should be out there gardening!

Gardening Line

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth.
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.

With all these pots lying around here, you'd think I could get something to grow! I've tried my hand at gardening at every base we've called home. Now that I don't have to worry about moving any time soon, I'm planting with much more enthusiasm. Last fall, I planted a couple of River Birch trees in the front of our house and three Bradford Pears in the back. I also got some hosta and several daylilies started so they would have the winter to get established.

This summer, I added pink gumbo azaleas along the back porch, and mixed in some old fashioned bleeding hearts with the hostas. In front I planted a Jackimani clematis on the lamp post, the big purple flowers should stand out nicely against the side of the garage. We had eight loads of prime top soil delivered and then our grass was hydroseeded. After 4 weeks of watering it several times daily, (Thanks Honey!) it looks as lush and beautiful as any golf course.

We noticed a couple of bluebirds on the fence one day and decided to put up a house for them. We only had it up a few days and were treated to watching a bluebird coming and going as it built a cozy nest inside!

Another regular in our yard is a young bunny from the nearby woods. We often see it sitting among the daylilies or along the back fence. Today, we caught him on the front porch and snapped a picture! *S* There's always something exciting going on when we're on the porch!

OH! I've got great big dreams for this new yard; an rose covered arbor, a Japanese maple, some dogwoods along the fence line. Lyle wants to put a swing in the back corner. Fortunately, we've got years to make them a reality! In the meantime, I love to look at gardening magazines. Here are just some of the great gardening sites I found on the web!
