Tegerfelden is a small village and is situated in the Rhine Valley North West Switzerland not far from Zurich in the canton of Aargau. Research has shown that Tegerfelden existed as far back as 1176AD.
The Deppeler name has been listed among the original inhabitants of Tegerfelden. In one of the Churches in Tegerfelden their is a stain glass window showing the Deppeler Family Crest.
My Great Grandfather, Andreas Deppeler (known as Andrew) was born in Tegerfelden on 4th September 1860. He emigrated to Australia on 14th June 1882 on a Ship called "Chymborazo". The captain of the ship was Capt. I.F. Ruthven and the voyage from England to Australia took 90 Days.
The reason why Andrew came to Australia was because there was a famine in Europe in the early 1880's and the family decided to send their male heirs to Australia. Andrew came first, and seven years later in 1888 Wilhelm (known as William) came and then a younger brother Alfred arrived in Australia in the early 1900's.
I will be adding a lot more infomation about my family on this page real soon, but in the meantime more information about the Deppeler Family can be found at the Deppeler Genealogy Page.
It was always my "ultimate dream" to one day visit Tegerfelden and see where my Great Grand Father came from.... Well dreams do come true and in June of 1997 mine did......
