Press Clippings Last Rites Held for James Cahill James Joseph Cahill, son of Daniel and Mary Cahill, was born May 4, 1873 at Ladd, Ill. and passed away June 30, 1950 at his home in St. Edward at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 26 days. He came to Nebraska in 1888 and settled on a farm on the Skeedee in which community he lived until October 1947 when he and his wife moved to St. Edward. On June 7, 1905 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Kealy. To this union nine children were born, Mary Kathryn who died in infancy, Veronica, now Mother Mary Ursula, St. Louis, Mo.; Leo J., St. Edward; Daniel J., Shelton; Ellen F., Fort Worth, Texas; Paul T. and Cecilia Thomazin, St. Edward; Agnes T. Clark, York; and John A., MM1, Great Lakes, Ill. Besides his wife and eight children he is survived by one brother, John C. of St. Edward, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Regan of Omaha, and fourteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brother, Thomas Maurice, Daniel, Michael and Patrick, and three sisters, Elizabeth Flaherty, Julia Fox and Loretta Brittell. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock from the St. Edward Catholic Church, conducted by Rev. J. Brady with Rev. J.J. Crowley of Albion, and Rev. G. Vermullen of Cedar Rapids, present in the Sanctuary. Internment was in the St. Edward Catholic cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers were Francis Taylor, Fred Collins, Robert Speas, Lew Wilson, Arnold Mahoney and Alfred Linnerson. Cahill Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 1968 for Mrs. James J. Cahill at St. Edward's Catholic Church, St. Edward, Nebraska. The Reverend James Brady officiated and burial was in the St. Edward Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Dan Cahill, Lexington, Jim Thomasin and Kent Cahill, St. Edward, Jerry Cahill, Genoa, Jim Clark, Fremont, and the husband of a granddaughter, Clem Sliva, Jr., Platte Center. Mrs. Cahill died Thursday morning, May 30, at the Fullerton Hospital after having suffered a stroke about noon on the previous Tuesday. Born, Mary E. Breen, at Westside, Iowa, April 24, 1881, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Maria Farrell Breen. However, when she was a very young child her father died and her mother married William Kealy. Thereafter she was known as Mary E. Kealy. Shortly after her mother's remarriage the family moved from Iowa to Neligh, Nebraska, later to Albion, and finally to St. Edward. On June 7, 1905 Mary Kealy and James J. Cahill were united in marriage at St. Edward's Church, St. Edward. Mrs. Cahill spent the greater part of her life in the St. Edward community, residing on a farm southwest of town. In the fall of 1960 she moved up to Columbus and made her home there with her daughter, Ellen. In 1965 she returned to St. Edward, and lived with her son, Leo, on the family farm. The last year and one-half of her life she spent in Parkview Nursing Home in Fullerton. Other than her parents and step-father, she was preceded in death by her husband, James, on June 30, 1950; a daughter, Mary, who died in infancy; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Surviving are four sons, Leo of St. Edward, Daniel of Ogallala, Paul of Platte Center and John of Santa Clara, Calif.; four daughters, Sister Mary Ursula of Kirkwood, Missouri, Ellen of Columbus, Mrs. Glenn (Cecilia) Thomazin of Shelby and Mrs. Lyle (Agnes) Clark of Fremont; twenty-three grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cahill is survived by two brothers, George Kealy of Sutherland, Nebr., and William Kealy of Council Bluffs, Ia.; and by two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Ellen) Hirsch of Omaha, and Mrs. Henry (Elizabeth) Reitz, of Genoa.
