Mrs. John Farrell Mrs. John Farrell, nee Katherine Killeen, was born in Dubuque county, Iowa, February 16, 1870 and died at St. Anthony's Hospital, Carroll, Iowa December 18, 1947. In 1908 she was united in marriage to John Farrell. To this union were born two sons, George Cullen Farrell of Burbank, California and Donald J. who died in infancy. When a small child she came with her parents to Carroll county and received her education there and taught school before her marriage. After her marriage she moved to Adams county, Iowa, and later moved to Minnesota. in 1929 they moved to Vail and remained here until death claimed them. Her husband preceded her in death on April 5, 1933. Besides her son, she is survived by 2 grandsons, one sister, Mrs. G. W. Cox of Des Moines, and 3 brothers, Thomas, James and Frank Killeen, all of West Side, Iowa. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Maria Lovely of Arcadia and four brothers, Michael, John, Edward and Patrick. Funeral services were held at St. Ann's church here on Monday morning, December 22 with burial in the Catholic cemetery in Arcadia. No credits listed John Farrell was the son of George Farrell and Jane Cullen, his first wife. ----------------------- The expected death of Mrs. John Farrell occurred at her home in Mercer township last Monday evening at 7:30 of a complication of diseases from which she had been a long and patient sufferer, aged 48 years, 4 months and 4 days. Bridget Welch was born in Dubuque county, Iowa, August 15th, 1856, and married John Farrell, who survives her, Feb. 9, 1892, at Boone, Iowa. They came to this county in 1896 and located in Nodaway township where they resided for a short time when they moved to Holt Township, Taylor Co., and about five years ago to the farm where her death occurred. Some time ago she was taken to the hospital at St. Joseph, Mo., but she did not improve and was returned home, her diseases being pronounced incurable. Besides the husband she leaves three brothers, one residing at Boone, Ia., who has been with her for the past three months, one in Colorado and the other in Kentucky. The remains were taken to Boone, Ia., Wednesday, where the funeral was held from the Sacred Heart Catholic church on Thursday and interment made in a cemetery near that city. A large number of the neighbors and friends accompanied the remains as far as Corning where they were placed on No. 3 and went by the way of Council Bluffs. Publication unknown. (in SW Iowa) is the only county in Iowa (or Nebraska) with both a Nodaway and a Mercer Twp. ----------------------- Mrs. Bernita Van Hecke Mrs. Bernita Farrell Van Hecke, 69 of Moline, Ill., a former Clinton county resident, died Wednesday January 2, 1974 in Moline Public hospital. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Moline. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery there. Friends may call in Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island. Bernita, daughter of Patrick and Bridget Shannon Farrell, was born June 9, 1904 at Davenport, she married Corniel Van Hecke in 1947 in Chicago. she was employed at Sears Roebuck and Company in Davenport until retiring in 1966. Her husband died in 1956. Survivors include step daughter, Mrs. Jack Objartal of Rock Island, Mrs. E. E. Trede of Monmouth, Ill., Mrs. Don Hanna of Scotland, Ark., and Francis Tritz, of Remsen, Ia., stepsons Robert and Thomas, both of Davenport; 16 step grandchildren, 15 step great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. John O'Connell of Tucson, Ariz., and 2 brothers, Francis Farrell of Villa Park, Ill. and Urban Farrell of Des Moines.
