DEATH OF MRS. M. FOLEY Well Known Vail Woman Called by Death. --- Funeral Monday On Friday evening, October 17, this community was saddened by the news that Mrs. Martha Foley passed away at her home in Vail. Although in failing health for the last few years, her condition was not serious until recently. Every effort was made to revive her failing strength but to no avail, and it only remained to soothe her last days with every attention that loving solicitude could devise. Martha Farrell was born and raised in Clinton county. In the year of 1872, she she was united in marriage to Keenan Foley. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive her. They are Mrs. C. M. O'Donnell and George of Jackson township, Mary of Vail and Mrs. James McGuire of Vayland, South Dakota. Her husband preceded her in death fifty years. Left with five small children, she bravely took up the task of caring for them. She kept the little family together in spite of difficulties, who grew up to be a comfort to her in her old age. She died, fortified by the Sacraments of the Holy Catholic Church, of which she was a devoted member. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Ann's church in Vail, conducted by Rev. Father Lynott, and the remains were laid to reset beside her husband and daughter Jennie in St. John's cemetery at Arcadia. McGuire of Wessington, S. D., had been killed in an automobile accident. Mrs. McGuire and children were driving to town in their auto, when, as they rounded a corner, the car turned over and little Marjorie received injuries that resulted in her death. Mrs. McGuire sustained a broken arm, but the others were not injured. Thus over a happy home the shadow of a little grave has fallen, and as another has said, it is wonderful how long and dark a shadow a little grave can throw. Bright, happy and cheerful she carried sunshine wherever she went. She had always a smile and pleasant word for her friends and her death comes, indeed, as a dark shadow to those who loved her so dearly. The remains were taken here for burial and a requiem high mass and funeral services were held at St. Ann's church Friday morning, after which she was tenderly laid to rest in St. Ann's cemetery. The pallbearers were six little girls: Rosie Hynes, Mary Kennedy, Marie Sheridan, Grace Mitchell, Mary Dieter and Veronica English. ------------- Publication unknown.
