G. Elwood Kealy Elwood Kealy, 90, of Sutherland died Aug. 30, 2004, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born May 31, 1914, to George and Mable Prieble Kealy at St. Edward. He attended school and graduated from St. Edward School with the class of 1932. After graduation he went to work for his brother in Council Oak Grocery store in Seward. In 1936, he married Evelyn Divis and together they moved to Sidney where he worked for his uncle in the grocery business. In 1954, the couple moved to Ogallala to work in Gano's Grocery Store. In 1955, they moved to Sutherland and purchased the grocery store there from Ruth and John Crockett. They sold the store to their son, Dean in 1975, but he continued working for another 15 years. Elwood had worked in the grocery business for a total of 58 years. He was the first to install fluorescent lighting in Sutherland. He will be remembered as a great storyteller with an incredible memory. He had the opportunity to pay his final tribute to his family, through his storytelling at the Senior Center on Friday before his death. He treasured the visits from family and friends and will be greatly missed. Mr. Kealy was a 48 year member of the Sutherland Lions Club and his passion in life was collecting glasses for those who couldn't afford them. Survivors include; a daughter, Kathleen "Kate" (Gordy) Voss of North Platte; a son, Dean (Kathy) Kealy of North Platte; two granddaughters, Darcy Kealy and Lindsey (Rob) Gill, both of Lincoln; two grandsons, Matt Voss also of Lincoln and Jason Voss of Beaverton, Ore.; a great-grandbaby on the way; numerous nieces and nephews and his special buddy, Duke. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister; and five brothers. A memorial has been established in his name. Christian Wake Service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church with Revs. Art Faesser and James Janovec as concelebrants. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery at Sutherland. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, and from 11:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
