Last Rites for Mrs. Maria Kealy is Held Mrs. Maria J. Kealy was born in Clinton County, Iowa, May 31, 1853 and died January 16, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Reitz, in Genoa, where every effort had been made to make her comfortable during her last sickness which was due to complications of old age. At the age of 22 years, she was united in marriage to Patrick Breen who passed away in 1882. To this union three children were born of which, Mrs. Jas. Cahill is surviving. On April 6, 1884, she was again united in marriage, this time to Wm. H. Kealy, who preceded her in death two years. She came to Nebraska with her husband in 1885 where she has since resided first in Antelope County later coming to Albion and then to St. Edward where she has been a resident the last 37 years. Left to mourn her loss are five children, Mrs. Jas. J. Cahill, Mrs. Fred Hirsch and George T., of St. Edward; Mrs. Henry Reitz, of Genoa; and Will. E. of Council Bluffs, Iowa. She also leaves four brothers, John Farrell, of Vail, Iowa; George, of Clinton, Iowa, James, of Delmar, Iowa; Patrick, of Waterloo, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Showalter of Alta Vista, Iowa; Mrs. Theresa Shannon, Webster, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Shannon, Clinton, Iowa; Mrs. Gertrude Torpey, Delmar, Iowa; forty two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday morning from the St. Edward Catholic Church, conducted by Father Mulligan. The remains were laid to rest beside her late husband in Evergreen Catholic Cemetery. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were John Farrell and Mrs. Chas. O'Donnell of Vail, Iowa, and George Lawler, of West Side, Iowa. ------------------------------------- ST. EDWARD Death of W. H. Kealy William H. Kealy was born Feb. 21, 1859 at Harrisburg, Lewis county, N.Y., and died at St. Paul, Neb., Jan 24, 1929 at the age of 70 years. Death was attributed to heart trouble with which he had been seriously afflicted for the past few weeks. When a young man, Mr. Kealy located in Iowa, where he united in marriage to Maria J. Breen on Apr. 6, 1884. He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters, George T., of St. Edward; William E., of Council Bluffs; Mrs. James J. Cahill, Mrs. Fred Hirsch, of St. Edward, and Mrs. Henry Reitz, of Genoa. Three brothers, T. E. Kealy, of St. Edward; John C., of Harrisburg, NY; Frank J., of St. Paul, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Maggie E. Byrnes, of Watertown, N.Y. One brother and one sister have preceded him in death. He leaves 40 grandchildren. Mr. Kealy homesteaded in Antelope county in 1885 and moved to Boone county from there in 1890, where he resided until the time of his death. For many years, he was connected with the Boone county nursery and for the past eight years, he had been interested in organization work for the A.O.U.W. in Nebraska. He was an active member of the society for 35 years and at the time of his death was serving as grand foreman. His work took him away form his home much of the time and while on a trip to St. Paul, shortly after the holidays, he was taken ill. Relatives from here went there to care for him and specialists from Grand Island were summoned. All members of the immediate family were at his bedside when he passed away. Funeral services were held Sunday from the St. Edward Catholic church and were conducted by Rev. Mulligan. The pall bearers were six of his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers, members of the A.O.U.W., included the grandmaster workman, Henry L. Pletcherr, of Grand Island. Among those from a distance attending the funeral were Michael Kernan and Mrs. O'Mara, of Hastings; Thomas Boyer and Thomas Humes, of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Gefellers, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Loyd, of Grand Island, and Mr. and Mrs. Springruth, of Clearwater. ------------------------------------- Both these were from photocopies of newspaper clippings sent to Dennis Nicklaus in 1998 by Ellen L.
