Sister Mary Madonna Showalter, 75, died Thursday at Queen of Angels Infirmary at Sacred Heart Convent,Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Born Jan. 18, 1906, at Charlotte, she entered the Congregation of the Cedar Rapids Sisters of Mercy on Sept. 4, 1932. She made her final profession of vows on June 24, 1938. She taught for 39 years in schols staffed by the Sisters of Mercy at Immaculate Conception and St. Wenceslaus high schools ,Cedar Rapids, and at St. Joseph's in Marion. She also taught at Garryowen, Decorah, Ames, DeWitt, Waterloo, Oelwein, Fairfax, Elma and Evansdale. She retired to the convent in 1973. She recieved a bachelor of arts degree from Loras College and completed additional studies at Mount Mercy College, Catholic University and the University if Northern Iowa, Surviving are two brothers, Albert of Georgetown, Del., and Harold of Elma. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Chapel by the Rev. David Remy, chaplain, and the Rev. Paul Showalter of Nauvoo, Ill., a nephew of Sister Madonna. Wake service: 7:30 tonight at the chapel. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Stewart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ------------------------ From Robert L.
