"Red" Farrell, 85, of 713 12th St., West Des Moines, died of a heart ailment Wednesday at Woodbury West Care Center, 1211 Vine St., West Des Moines. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, of which he was a member, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Mr. Farrell was born in De Witt and lived in Des Moines for 28 years. He retired from Allis-Chalmers Corp. Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Mason City; three sons, Jerome of Mason City, and Edmund and Michael of West Des Moines; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Dunn's Funeral Home, where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Disease Association. She was the daughter of Raymond H. and Leah M. (Paul) Welsh. Virginia was united in marriage to Urban Joseph Farrell in Waterloo on May 12, 1941, and the couple became the proud parents of three sons. Many in the area will remember Virginia as a bookkeeper for 27 years at Berry Machine Shop in Mason City. She was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City. Virginia was a generous and loving Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma and friend and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her three sons, Jerome P. (Norma) Farrell of Mason City, Edmund J. Farrell of West Des Moines and Michael E.
