Obituary DIROM - Ida May (Lovell) passed away in peace at Cowichan District Hospital on November 22, 1998. May was born in North Bay, Ontario on July 1, 1904 to William and Sarah Lovell. She came to Duncan in her early teen years. She married Albert Dirom in 1923 and moved into her home on Islay Street, where she lived for 74 years. Her beloved husband of 61 years predeceased her in December, 1984. She was the last of that generation of Dirom's. Her sister, Irene (Dirom) George and her sister-in-law, Edith (Dirom) McKnight both predeceased her in the spring, 1998. She leaves to carry on the Dirom traditions her four children: Rosa (Alan) Swan, Sechelt, B.C., Eleanor (George) Chester, Duncan, B.C., Ian (Eleanor) Dirom, North Vancouver, B.C., Neil (Norma) Dirom, Duncan, B.C.; ten grandchildren: Eleanor (Ken) Gurney, Gibsons, B.C., Martin (Jan) Swan, Bowen Island, B.C., Trevor (Susan) Swan, Mill Bay, B.C., Joanne Chester, Mike (Yvonne) Chester, Gavin (Theresa) Chester, all of Duncan, Fiona Dirom, Lyn Dirom, North Vancouver, B.C., Scott Dirom, Long Beach, California, Dereck (Seonid) Dirom, Fukui City, Japan, and 13 great-grandchildren. Her sister Irene's children were also near and dear to her as the two Lovell sisters had married two Dirom brothers. John (Nora) Dirom, Duncan, Robert (Sandy) Dirom, Cranbrook, B.C. and all of their children. May was a life member of the Canadian Red Cross, knitting sweaters for over 40 years, a member of the Cowichan Branch 53, Legion Ladies Auxilary for over 72 years, a life member Get Together Branch of Duncan United Church and a Life Member of Valley Seniors Organization of Duncan. "Nana" will be remem- bered for her love of sports, especially baseball, football and hockey, her "winning ways" in card games and the yearly Christmas tradition of playing the game of 'Pit'. Her concern and love for all her family will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Manhas and Dr. Steve Faulkner, the staff on the 3rd floor at C.D.H., Reverend Shelley Lavenne and Reverend Jim Ware of the United Church, Marie and Claude Burroughs of Sea Vista Manor and all those people who brightened her last days. May's wish for a private memorial service for imme- diate family members was honored by her family.
