Rites Held for Avesta Fancher Funeral services for Avesta Fancher were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the North English Christian Church, conducted by Rev. John L. McCurdy. Burial was made in the North English cemetery. Avesta Sherman Fancher, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Fancher, was born on a farm near White Pigeon, March 8, 1885 and passed away at his home December 22, 1955 at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 14 days. "Vesta", as he was familiarly known, attended the rural school near his home. He was married to Mary E. Gilchrist, December 30, 1908. Their home was established on a farm in the White Pigeon neighborhood. This home was blessed with on son, Edward. In addition to his devoted wife and son he is survived by his daughter-in-law, Ruth, whom he loved as his own and two granddaughters, Beverly and Linda, his pride and joy; three brothers, Ora of Gray, Iowa; Virgil and Walter of North English; one sister, Mrs. Earl Bair of Webster, Iowa, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Alma Whitmore. Vesta attended Church and Sunday School at the White Pigeon Christian Church and during later years he and his wife faithfully attended the North English Christian Church. Vesta was devoted to his family. He was a good husband and father, ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
