JOHN GILCHRIST John Peter Gilchrist, son of James Gilchrist and Margaret Gilchrist was born in North English, Iowa, on December 6, 1890 and died in Clarke County Public Hospital, at Osceola, Iowa on December 10, 1964. He was 74 years old. John Gilchrist was married to Grace Smith, May 12, 1915 at North English. One son, John Eldon, was born to them. John was a teacher for a number of years, and was a bookkeeper for Community Sales in Osceola, where he resided for 46 years. He was active in the Osceola Rotary Club, of which he was a past president. He was a member of the Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Grace; his son John Eldon; two brothers,, Joe Gilchrist of North English and W.H. Gilchrist of La Mesa, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and three brothers, Clarence, Estill and Isaac. Funeral services for Mr. Gilchrist were held Saturday, December 12, 1964 at 10:30 a.m. in the Webster Funeral Home in Osceola. The Rev. Fred Woolsey, pastor of the North English Christian Church, officiated. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. in the North English cemetery. Casketbearers were: William Gilchrist, Leroy Claypool, Kenneth Donahue, Dean H.
