PATERSON, JOHN, farmer, Sec. 2; P.O. North English; born in Scotland, February 29, 1824; there he lived until 1854, when he emigrated to the United States, locating where he now resides; he owns eighty acres of land, well improved; when he commenced farming he had but very little means, but by industry, perseverance and hard, honest toil, he has prospered, and now has a fine residence and barn; August 11, 1862, he enlisted in company I, Twenty-eighth Iowa Infantry, and served with his regiment until the expiration of his term; he was discharged August 1, 1864, and then returned home, and has since devoted his time to farming; married June 15, 1849 to Miss N.
