Duane Simmons , 89, of Silvercrest of Anamosa, formerly of Central City, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, in Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma; two brothers, Albert and Donald; and a sister, Grace Kleinhans. Duane was born Nov. 11, 1917, in North English, Iowa, to Oren and Ella (Gilchrist) Simmons. On March 25, 1939, he was united in marriage to Wilma Nietert. She died Nov. 25, 1977. Duane farmed until 1957 and then was a self-employed mobile feed mill operator. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Duane. Kleinhans Grace F. Kleinhans, 82, of 1246 28th St. SE, died Tuesday, April 2, 1996, in her home after a short illness. Grace was born Oct. 8, 1913, in North English, to Oren and Ella Gilchrist Simmons. She was a graduate of Washington High School. She married B.A. "Jess" Jessen on July 8, 1941. They owned and operated Challed Pharmacy until his death on July 2, 1958. She married Edgar "Ned" Kleinhans on May 6, 1961. He died Feb. 15, 1968. Grace was a buyer in cosmetics at the Wilson Avenue Drugtown for 11 years until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Alberta was born July 29, 1936, in Iowa City, to Albert Dean and Edyth Mae McAtee Simmons. Alberta was an accountant at Lefebure for 27 years. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she was the Sunday School Treasurer. She also was a hostess for Internet games. A memorial fund has been established.
