Obituary Ross Albert Smith was born at North English, Iowa,, Aug. 15, 1889, and departed this life at the home of D.F. Bryson at Adams, Nebr., Nov. 4, 1917, aged 28 years, 2 months and 19 days. His early years were spent on the farm. After his father's death 13 years ago the family moved to North English. On July 27, 1910, he was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Gilchrist. The home life was beautiful; permeated with love and confidence, and blessed with the presence of an only daughter, Nellie Irene. The deceased was kindly genial, helpful and friendly and held in almost universal esteem in the community. Of mechanical mind he became an expert machinist and automobile workman. A few weeks ago he was attacked with a severe case of pneumonia. His recovery seemed slow and unsatisfactory. In an effort to recuperate his strength, he started on a trip about two weeks ago. At Adams, Nebr., poison from the pneumonic conditions reached the spine and attacked the lower brain. All the resources of medical skill, trained nursing, and loving friends ministering at his bedside proved unequal to the deadly poison. After great suffering he was claimed by death. He leaves to mourn his premature death, a devoted wife, the little daughter Irene, his mother, four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Chas. Blair, Mrs. Jesse Miller, Mrs. Lloyd Bickford, Mrs. Lee Bickford, Harold and Wayne, all of North English. Also an aged grandfather and many other relatives. After a brief funeral service at the D.F. Bryson home in Adams, the body body [sic -- DJN] was brought to North English. Further funeral services were conducted from the Christian church, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 1917, by Rev. R.B. Hyten. The body was laid to rest in the North English cemetery. Earthly forms and treasures fade away all but the lives of men, Enshrined in loving memories he lives forever.
