This community, while not surprised perhaps, was much shocked at learning of the death of Frank Beaulieu last Saturday morning at about seven o'clock. Frand was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beaulieu, who live about six miles southwest of Ashton. He was taken sick with typhoid fever, about five weeks ago while working in S. S. Dean & Co's drug store, at Sheldon, where he was a valued assistant. After a few days he was removed to the parental home where he received the best of medical care and tender nursing, until the day of his death. He was born in Black Hawk county, Iowa, on the 31st day of October, 1872 and removed with his parents to Lyon county some years ago, where he has remained helping on the farm until a few months ago when he entered the employ of S. S. Dean & Co. In Ashton and in Sheldon, as well as the neighborhood of his home, Frank was well known, and yet we can honestly say that all who knew him were his friends. Kind and gentle, manly and honest, he was loved by all. At home as with acquaintances he was gentlemanly and pleasant ever ready to do a kindness. He was his mother's and sister's lover, his brothers' advisor and his father's staff. He will be missed as few of us shall, but his memory will be cherished and perhaps his example will be a help to some of us weaker ones, let us hope so. No words that The Leaner can say will be a consolation to his family, but we and their many friends here sympathize with them, and mourn the loss next to that of one of our own brothers or sisters, and, we shall miss him too. And though his place in our hearts can never be filled by another, let us bear with patience, this sorrow put upon us by a Heavenly Father who is all love and all kindness. For though we cannot understand His ways, they are all for the best. Frank D. Beaulieu, the oldest son of Frank and Elizabeth Beaulieu was born October 31, 1873 in Waterloo, Black Hawk county, Iowa, and removed with his parents to this neighborhood, ten years ago. He always enjoyed perfect health until five weeks ago when he was taken sick at Sheldon and after two weeks was removed to his home where he died, Saturday morning at sever o'clock, Nov. 20, 1897. He was buried in the Sheldon cemetary, Monday, November 22. The funeral train left the house at 8:30, and drove to the Catholic church in Sheldon, where solemn High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father McCormick, of Alvord, assisted by Rev. Father Farrelly, of Sheldon and Rev. Father Martin, of Sanborn. Father Farrelly preached the sermon and paid many touching tributes to the departed one. Relatives who attended the funeral were, Mr. Timothy Cranny, of Trair, Mr. D. F. Lowler, of De Witt and Mr. John Beaulieu, of Charter Oak. The Ashton Leader Nov 24, 1897 Ashton, Iowa [The second paragraph was also reprinted in a different area newspaper (I don't know which one), on the same day, giving credit to the Ashton Leader. I've included typos as the appeared in the newspaper article, including the spelling "Frand" in the second sentence, and the spelling of "Lowler" at the end.]
