CROWNINGSHIELD Athletic Coach Stricken Sunday Bernard Crowningshield, junior varsity football and baseball coach at Coalinga junior high, died Sunday of a heart attack. He was 57. The attack came shortly before noon while he was watching television. Crowningshield, who had been a physical education instructor here the past eight years, had suffered two previous attacks. The last was a month ago when he was hospitalized for three weeks. His first attack, in 1957, incapacitated him for three months. Born in South Dakota, Crowningshield was a graduate of the University of Illinois and had been teaching for 31 years. He took on his coaching assignments here three years ago. He was interred at his former home of Wayzatta, Minn., where he taught at the high school eight years before coming to Coalinga. Rosary service was held at the Adcock-Bragg mortuary parlor Monday evening with funeral mass conducted by the Rev. Patrick Reilly of St. Paul's church Tuesday morning. Pall-bearers were N.W. Blanchard III, George Olsen, Cledith Bourdeau, Ron Eastman, Lloyd Gayman and Arthur Wolzmuth. He is survived by his widow, Helen, and two sons, John David and Cleve Bernard, all of Coalinga; a daughter, Sister Helen Bernard, CSJ, of Minneapolis; a sister, Mr. Donald Tucker, also of Minneapolis, and a step-mother, Mrs. Alma Crowningshield, of Bell, Calif.
