Obituary Mrs. Elizabeth McDonald The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Sugar Creek, for MRs. Elizabeth M. McDonald, 86, of rural Preston. She died Saturday in her home. The Rev. Ed Bitkin officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Gerald Hartung, Jim McDonald, Joe Hand, Edward Cain, Jim Roling and Ray Trenkamp. Mrs. McDonald was born MArch 17, 1896, in Welton, Iowa, to Tom and Mary Kingsley Lawlor. On Oct 6, 1931, she married Thomas McDonald. The couple farmed near Preston. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Rosary Society and Preston American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her hsuband; three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Mary) Schmidt of Preston, Mrs. James (Betty) Grindley of Grandview, Mo. and Teresa L. McDonald of Iowa City; four grandchildren; and a sister, Angela Dolan of Clearwater, Fla. She was preceded in death by three bothers and two sisters. Preston Times Aug. 4, 1982 ---------------- Thomas J. McDonald Thomas J. McDonald, 95, of Rural Preston, died Sat., Sept. 3 in Mercy Hosptial, Clinton. Services were held Tues. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Sugar Creek with the Rev. Ed Botkin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Preston American Legion conducting military graveside services. Mr. McDonald was born May 21, 1893 in Deep Creek Township, Clinton, to Thomas and Anna Burke McDonald. He married Elizabeth Mary Lawlor, Oct. 6, 1931. She died in 1982. He farmed until 1982. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Sugar Creek, a World War I army veteran, Charter member of Preston American Legion and a former treasurer. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mary Schmidt, Preston, Mrs. Eddy (Elizabeth) Griendly, of Grandview, Mo., Theresa McDonald, Iowa City; and four grandchildren.
