Clarence Malloy Davenport --- Services for Clarence P. "Barney" Malloy, 78, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davnport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitatino is 3-9 p.m. today at Halligan McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mr. Malloy died Tuesday at his home. He had owned and operated Malloy Hybrids, one of the first seed corn cooperatives in the country, in West Side, Iowa. He also had farmed near there. Mr. Malloy married Catherine Lawler in 1948 in Caroll, Iowa. During World War II, he served in the Army. He was a member of the church; Knights of Columbus Council 532, Davenport; and Denison American Legion. He also enjoyed music and had sung in the church choir in Vail, Iowa. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Margaret (Mrs. Tim) Day, Des Moines, Anne (Mrs. Brice) Gordon and Mary Jo (Mrs. Niklaus) Gehler, both of Louisville, Ky., Maureen (Mrs. K.C.) Beddow, Felton, Calif., and Casey (Mrs. John) Hunt, Norman, Okla.; sons, Joe, Louisville, Jim, Knoxville, Iowa, Bob, Davenport, and Jerry, Aptos, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, Melvin, Carroll. Malloy, 82, a resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport, where she was a member. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be today from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. You are invited to join the family for a prayer service at 7 p.m. Mrs. Malloy passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Patti Malloy. She died following a brief illness. Catherine Agnes Lawler was born August 10, 1925, in Wall Lake, Iowa, a daughter of Daniel Vincent and Mary (Clifford) Lawler. She was united in marriage to Clarence P. "Barney" Malloy on April 26, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 1, 1995. She received her B.S. in Nursing, and later attended St. Ambrose College and received a degree in Special Studies. Mrs. Malloy retired from the former Mercy Hospital after more than 30 years of service. She had been both a registered nurse and at the time of her retirement had assisted in Risk Management. She then worked part time for the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. Catherine enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials can be made to the Edwin A. Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Malloy, Des Moines, Iowa, Anne Gordon, Louisville, Ky., Maureen (K.C.) Beddow, Felton, Calif., Mary Jo (John) Niklaus-Gehler, Florence, Ky., and Casey (John) Hunt, Norman, Okla.; sons, Joe (Dorothy) Malloy, Louisville, Ky., Jim Malloy, Marshalltown, Iowa, Bob (Patti) Malloy, Davenport, and Jerry (Linda) Malloy, Aptos, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Johnson, Bettendorf, and Jean (Art) Disney, and brothers, Bob (Jackie) Lawler, and Paul "Duke" and Marti Lawler, Davenport. She was preceded in death by her husband, and sisters, Alice and Veronica, and brothers, Jerry and Lou. May they rest in peace.
