Obituary On Wednesday, March 1st the community was shocked to hear of the sudden death of Thos. Dunn at his home in Crawford county. He retired at bed time as well as usual. In the morning at 8 o'clock, when his daughter entered the room to ask if there was any thing he wanted, he was dead in a few seconds. The deceased was born in Queen county, Ireland, in the year 1829 as near as can be learned. A half century ago he was married to Miss Haranhran [sic --- DJN], of Clinton county. To this union was born one son, and in 1868 he was again married to Margaret Lawler. To this union were born nine children, six of whom died within three weeks of each other of dipthera. Mr. Dunn was an ideal christian man. As a neighbor and friend he was kind and his sudden taking away without warning comes as a blow to his family as well as friends, with no enemies as can be said of few of us. "May God give them grace to bear their burdens of sorrow bravely, as death is but the beginning of life, let us say 'may his soul rest in peace." He is survived by a sorrowing wife, three sons and a daughter, as follows: John of N.Y. City, Clare, Leo, and Josie, of Breda, Iowa. The funeral was held in the catholic church at Arcadia where Requiem Mass was celebrate by Rev. Father Shulta, who also conducted the services at the cemetery, where a large line of teams went to pay a last tribute of respect to Mr. Dunn. Thos from a distance were his nephews, Mr. Thos. Lawler, of De Witt, Ia., L. V. Dunn, of Charolette [sic], Ia., Mrs. John Kealy, of Hasting, Neb. The pall bearers were as follows: B. McLaughlin, Dan Murphy, Ed Downey, James Fitzhenry, Ed McCarty, James Duffy. In Memory Gone are the days we cannot recall--- Gone are the friends dear to us all. Of't we have clasped the dear hand that is cold On the bosum of one that was loving and old. Age did not differ for love could not fade Till the links that were broken once firmly made. By father's affection that with us would stay. If the angle of death did not take him away. One consolation --- fond memories will remain Till we meet you and join you in heaven again. Contributed.
