From list of Century and Pioneer Farms in "A Century of Living in Wall Lake 1877-1977" Lawler Century Farm John H. Lawler bought 240 acres Jackson Twp. Sec 13 and 24 in 1873 for $5.40 per acre. He came with his father and 4 brothers from Clinton Co. He had $1500, a team of horses, 3 colts, a wooden frame drag, and a plow. The first house was built near the creek and in 1896 moved to the site of the present house and is a part of it. After the death of John the farm went to his widow and three sons, John W., Ambrose, and Thomas. They added another 80 acres. Eventually Ambrose became sole owner about 1955. On his death in 1962 it was inherited by his widow and two children, John P. and Kathy. Mrs. Lawler died in 1972 and the children now own the farm which has been rented the last five years.
