Shelby Kealy Hometown: Scottsdale, Ariz. Position: Assistant Coach Alma Mater: Denver '98 DU head women's basketball coach Pam Tanner announced the hiring of former DU standout and Lafayette College assistant Shelby Kealy as assistant coach June 7 [2006]. Kealy brings seven years of collegiate coaching experience to the Pioneer program and joins assistants Tracy Tripp and Marisa Moseley on Tanner's staff. A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kealy served as an assistant coach at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., under head coach Tammy Smith from 2001-2006. This past season, the Leopards enjoyed their best season in five years. Kealy played an instrumental role in Lafayette's success on and off the court, serving as the guards coach, recruiting potential student-athletes and supervising the Leopards summer camp program. Prior to Lafayette, Kealy was an assistant coach at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas from 1999-2001. Known as one of the best NCAA Division III women's basketball programs, Kealy was a part of the coaching staff that led the HSU cowgirls to a 27-2 record in 2001, advancing to the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Division III Tournament and receiving a final ranking of fifth in the nation. At Hardin-Simmons, Kealy served as an on-floor coaching capacity, as well as assisting in recruiting and scouting duties for the Cowgirls. A 1998 DU graduate, Kealy earned her bachelor's degree in marketing and followed up with a master's degree in athletic administration from Hardin-Simmons University in 2000. While an undergraduate at Denver, Kealy was a member of the Pioneer women's basketball team from 1995-1998, serving as team captain her senior season and averaged 4.6 points per game for her career. With Tanner at the helm, the Pioneers complied a record of 59-51 during Kealy's playing days. Kealy was also a "Colorado Sportswomen of the Year" and DU "Student-Athlete of the Year" nominee in 1998 and earned the "Most Improved Player" award following her rookie season.
