Deaths, Funerals George Lawler WESTSIDE --- George Lawler, 84, lifelong resident of the Westside community, died about 8:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, where he had been a patient for five weeks. He has been in failing health for several years. Requiem mass will be read at 9:30 Monday morning at St. Ann's Church in Vail, of which Mr. Lawler was a member. The Rev. Dennis L. Clark will officiate; and interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 7 p.m. Saturday. The rosary will be recited Saturday at 8 and 8:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 3 and 8 p.m. Mr. Lawler was born Nov. 13, 1877, in Jackson Township, Crawford County, near Westside, a son of Fenton and Kate Lawler. On Oct. 14, 1908, he was married to Ethel Downey at St. Ann's Church, Vail, by the late Rev. James Murphy. After their marriage they farmed two miles north and one-half mile west of Westside until retiring and moving into Westside in 1953. Surviving are his wife, Ethel; four children, Mrs. Raphael (Helen) Walsh, Vail; Francis Lawler, Westside; Robert Lawler, Omaha; and Gerald Lawler, Westside; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son in infancy; also his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Carroll Times Herald Sat., Oct. 27, 1962 ------------------------------ Mrs. George Lawler WESTSIDE --- Mrs. George Lawler, 82, of Westside, died Monday morning, Oct. 2, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll where she had been ill for about a week. She had resided at St. Anthony Nursing Home since April, 1966. Requiem mass will be read at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Ann's Church at Vail by the Rev. D. L. Clark. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, under direction of the Sharp Funeral Home of Carroll. Friends may call at Sharp's after 7 p.m. Monday. There will be rosaries at 8 p.m. Monday and at 3, 8, and 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Lawler was the former Ethel Downey, daughter of Edward and Mary Regan Downey. She was born June 23, 1885, at Vail and attended Jackson Center School in Crawford County. Her marriage to Mr. Lawler took place Oct. 14, 1908, in St. Ann's Church, with the Rev. James Murphy officiating. The couple made their home on a farm north of Westside until retiring and moving in to Westside in 1953. Mr. Lawler died in 1962. She was a member of St. Ann's Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. R. E. (Helen) Walsh, Vail; three sons, Francis and Gerald of Westside and Robert, Omaha, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Leo Downey, Wall Lake; and three sisters, Rachel and Isabelle Downey, and Mrs. J.
