Mrs. Thos Lawler Mrs. Thomas Lawler passed away at her home north of West Side on Wednesday, Jan. 17, four hours after giving birth to a daughter, who also passed away shortly after birth. Mary Ann Mulhall was born at Fort Dodge on Dec. 1st, 1904 and attained the age of 35 years, 1 month and 1 day. She received her education at St. Ambrose Academy of Des Moines and also attended St. Ann's Academy of Vail. where she graduated in 1922 [or 1923, I can't tell]. Following her graduation she taught in the rural schools of Carroll and Crawford counties for four years. She was united in marriage with Thos. E. Lawler on May 1, 1928. To this union were born two daughters and a son, all of whom died in infancy. She was also preceded in death by her father, John Mulhall, who passed away on April 23, 1908. Funeral services were held at St. Ann's church in Vail on Saturday, Jan. 20, with Father A. A. Bausch of Wall Lake in charge of the requiem high mass. Interment was made at St. Ann's cemetery at Vail. Pallbearers were Wm. Lawler, Wm. Maher, Wm. J. Dreesmen, Clare Dunn, John Blessington and John Kelly. Those from a distance in attendance of the funeral were, Mrs. Maurice Breen of Omaha, Catherine and Alice Kennan of Hastings, Neb., Joe and Melvena Driscoll, Thomas and Joe Maher and Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Clarke of Carroll, Joe Downer of Ames, Vincent Lawler of Eldora, George Lawler of Fort Dodge and Frank McShane of Lake View. Denison, Iowa paper Jan 25, 1940 --------------------- Obituaries Thomas E. Lawler Thomas E. Lawler was born June 9, 1892, the son of John and Bridget Lawler. He was born on a farm seven miles north of Westside where he spent his entire life with the exception of 17 months spent in the armed forces, several of which were spent overseas. He died Feb. 18 at St. Anthony's hospital in Carroll. He had been in ill health for the past two and one-half years and had spent many weeks in the Veterans' hospital in Omaha, Mercy hospital in Des Moines and had been a patient at the Carroll hospital since Dec. 14. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish of Wall Lake, Charles Carroll Council - Knights of Columbus, an American Legion member and served as clerk of Jackson township for many years. He was married May 14, 1928 to Mary Mulhall and to this union three children were born, all of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Lawler died Jan. 17, 1940. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church in Wall Lake Monday at 9:30 a.m. The Requiem Mass was read by the Rev. P. J. Dally. Burial was made in St. Ann's cemetery at Vail with the Rev. D. C. Clark officiating. Graveside services were conducted by Chalon Post of the American Legion with Ray Kies as sergeant-at-arms. Pallbearers were William Rohde, Francis McShane, Arch Nerellus, Vincent Rowen, Merle Steinkamp and John Blessington. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Lawler and their children, John and Kathleen, all of Westside.
