DIES AFTER A LONG ILLNESS ----------------- Daniel Lawler, One of the Early Settlers of Jackson Twp. ----------------- Death Occurred October 29th at His Home and Burial at St. Vail Cemetery ----------------- West Side Journal: Daniel Lawler was born December 23, 1845, at Orchard, Queen's county, Ireland, and died October 29, 1920, at the age of seventy-four years, ten months and six days. He came to America with his aunt and other friends in the year 1854, joining his parents at DeWitt, Clinton county, Iowa. His parents had preceded him to this country eight years before and made a home for their family. He resided at that place until the year 1874, when he moved to West Side, Iowa, and purchased a farm north of town, living there until his death. On September 24, 1877, he was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony with Mary Malloy who survives him. Besides his wife he leaves seven children: Ella, Margaret, James, Alicia, Elizabeth, Daniel and Loretta, all of whom were at the bedside when he departed this life. One son, John died in childhood. He also leaves to mourn his loss one brother and three sisters as follows: P. J. Lawler, Mrs. Bridget Kerrigan and Mrs. Margaret Dunn, all of Jackson township and Mrs. Alicia Kealy of Hastings, Nebraska. One sister, Mrs. Mary Cuddy, and three brothers, Michael, John and his twin brother, Fenton, preceded him to the grave. He possessed the just and sterling qualities which made for him life long friendships, a host of acquaintances remaining to regret his departure. Among those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. Alicia Kealy of Hastings, Neb.; Mr. J. F. Pendergast and daughter Ellen of Omaha, Neb.; and Mr. William Malloy, of Red Oak, Iowa. The funeral services were held at St. Ann's Catholic church, Vail, Iowa. Rev. Father Hartz officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in St. Ann's cemetery.
