Prominent Vail Man Deceased F. W. LAWLER LAID AT REST APRIL 21st, DEATH FOLLOWING OPERATION Crawford County Citizen Since 1875 Passes Away After Six days Illness Many people thru-out Crawford county were acquainted with Mr. F. W. Lawler of Jackson township, near Vail, and held him in high esteem. Mr. Lawler's death came at the age of about 74 years, on April 19th. The Vail Observer publishes the following the obituary: With deep sympathy and regret we chronicle the death of Mr. Fenton Lawler which occurred at his home at Vail, Iowa, April 19, 1919, after an illness of six days. On Thursday his condition became so serious that an operation was performed from which he rallied for only a short time. There was a general interest manifested that he might recover, but god ordained it other wise and he passed peacefully away on Saturday afternoon. Fenton William Lawler was born in Queens County, Ireland on December 24, 1845, coming to this country at three years of age. The family lived in Kentucky, and later settled in Clinton county, Iowa, where Mr. Lawler grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Kate Farrell by Rev. Father Scallion at DeWitt, Iowa on April 6, 1875, coming soon after to Crawford county, where he and Mrs. Lawler have since made their home. Four sons and three daughters blessed these Christian parents, George, William, Joseph, and Gertrude (Mrs. Martin O'Connell) and who with their mother survive him, and Frank, Lillian (Mrs. Leo Downey) and an infant, Catherine, who passed away. His brothers and sisters living are Daniel, his twin brother, P. J., Mrs. Bridget Kerrigan, Mrs. Margaret Dunn, and Mrs. Alecia Kealey, Michael, John H. and Mrs. Mary Cuddy died some time ago. Mr. Lawler was a devout Catholic. His ideals were high, his motives pure and he had that kindly manner and generous impulse towards all that won for him sincere friends. All knew and appreciated the gentleness and richness of his character. His good life is a rich heritage to his family. The funeral was held in St. Ann's church at 10 o'clock Monday morning April 21, Rev. Father Murphy officiating at Requiem High Mass assisted by Rev. Father Harty and Rev. Father Farrelly of Denison.
