MRS. M. E. O'CONNELL The community was saddened Monday morning, Nov. 2 by the message that Mrs. M. E. O'Connell had passed away at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, following an operation. The remains were brought to Vail that evening. Gertrude Lawler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Lawler was born near Westside, Iowa, June 10, 1885 and most of her life was spent on a farm in Jackson Township. She received most of her education in the rural schools and in St. Ann's Academy, Vail. On Oct. 22, 1915 she was united in marriage with Martin E. O'Connell, who survives her. After their marriage they resided on their farm north of town, until after the death of her father in 1919, when they moved to Vail to be with her mother, to whom she was a great consolation, until the passing of her mother on Aug. 30 of this year Mrs. O'Connell was a loving wife, a kind neighbor and a true friend. She was a devout catholic, led an exemplary life and will be missed by a wide circle of friends. When her friends or neighbors were in trouble, she was always present, ready to assist and comfort them. She leaves to mourn her departure, her devoted husband, two brothers, George and Joseph Lawler. Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Francis in 1904, William in 1923 and her sister, Mrs. Lillian Downey in 1917. The funeral was held Wed. Nov. 4th at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church and was attended by a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives. Rev. Father Sullivan celebrated a requiem high mass and interment was in St. Ann's Cemetery. The pall bearers were Dr. C. F. Little, Dr. T. J. Beirne, John White, James M. O'Reilly, Jesse Deiter and Frank Powers. Among those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. M. O'Reilly of Fort Dodge, Iowa ; Mr. John White and Misses Pauline Cranny and Rachel Downey of Omaha; Messrs, Edward Ryan and Martin Barrett of Dunlap; Mrs R. P.
