Frank "Ice" Elias, 83, of Cottage Grove Place, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with military rites. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and after noon Saturday at the chapel. Survivors include his wife, Mary "Geri"; a sister, Marie Krejci of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Charles Elias of Minneapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and his parents. Ice was born Feb. 1, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, the son of W.J. and Bessie Asandrener Elias. He married Mary "Geri" Hanson on Feb. 15, 1941, in Cedar Rapids. Ice worked for Iowa National Mutual Insurance Co. from 1938 until 1980, when he retired as chairman of the board. He was a member of VFW Post 788, Elks Club and Elmcrest Country Club. He served in the Army during World War II and attained the rank of staff sergeant.
