Mary Brenden Mary Brenden, age 82, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend David Hemann will officiate the service, with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Ida Grove. Friends may call at the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. There will be a Scripture Service at 7 p.m., with a Rosary Service to follow. Born April 5, 1922, in Plankinton, South Dakota, Mary was the daughter of Martin and Margaret (Lawler) Farrell. She graduated from Plankinton High School in 1939, and in 1941 received a Music Normal diploma from Yankton College. Mary taught music and commercial subjects at Willow Lake, Platte, Fairfax, and Geddes, South Dakota. On June 15, 1946, she married Ernest Brenden at St. John's Catholic Church in Plankinton, South Dakota. The couple moved to Ida Grove in 1947, where Mary served as society editor for the Ida County Pioneer Record newspaper for twenty years. Mary served as organist at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for forty years. She gave piano lessons, enjoyed quilting with the Catholic ladies, volunteered at Morningside Rehab and Care Center, and took special pride in her family. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and four brothers, Martin, Eugene, Frank, and Donald. Survivors include three children, Mary Kay Elsensohn and husband Jim of Rich Hill, MO, Marty Brenden of Jefferson, and Ann Brenden of West Des Moines; two grandchildren, Sarah Kaelin and husband Mike of Rolla, MO, and Mark Elsensohn of Lawrence, KS; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Kaelin. 3/29/2005 Ida County Courier, Ida Grove, Iowa Ernest Brenden Ernest Owen Brenden, age 83, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend David Hemann will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial, with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Ida Grove. Friends may call at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove on Thursday from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. There will be a 7 p.m.Vigil Service, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary. Born February 2, 1920, in Fairfax, South Dakota, Ernest was the son of Andrew and Grace (Ping) Brenden. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1936, and farmed for several years. On June 15, 1946, Ernest married Mary Farrell at St. John's Catholic Church in Plankinton, South Dakota. He was employed at the Ida County Pioneer Record for 43 years and was foreman of the back shop for many years. Ernest was very active in Boy Scouts, serving as District Commissioner. He was awarded the St. George Emblem and the Silver Beaver Award. Ernest also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was Grand Knight of the Danbury Holy Rosary Council #2839. He enjoyed hunting in his youth and later spent many happy hours fishing and gardening. His priority in life was his family. Ernest will be remembered as a devoted and kind husband and father. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only sibling, Donald Brenden. Survivors include his wife, Mary; three children, Mary Kay Elsensohn and husband Jim of Rich Hill, MO, Marty Brenden of Jefferson, and Ann Brenden of West Des Moines; two grandchildren, Sarah Kaelin and husband Mike of Rolla, MO, and Mark Elsensohn of Lawrence, KS; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Kaelin. 9 July 2003 Ida County Courier, Ida Grove, Iowa
