Charlotte Postmaster, Thomas Gerald Clifford, passed away in his home Saturday evening. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Assumption Catholic church, Charlotte with Hanrahan Funeral Home in charge. Rev. John Kennedy officiated at the service. Burial was in Assumption cemetery. Pallbearers were John Cash, Frank Till, Raymond Becvar, Virtus Petersen, Bob Dingman and Thomas Burke. Graveside military rites were conducted by the Charlotte Post American Legion. Mr. Clifford was born at Welton August 4, 1910 to Timothy and Anna Powers Clifford. He and Ruth Kane were married at Charlotte January 12, 1943. Mr. Clifford was a veteran of World War II and had served as postmaster of Charlotte since 1951. Surviving are his wife, one brother, Walter of Chicago, three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Herod and Miss Helen Clifford, both of St. Clare Shores, Michigan and Mrs. Alice Dean of Wall Lake, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Aug. 29, 1963 De Witt Observer Ruth Clifford of Charlotte will observe her 85th birthday at an open house Saturday, Sept. 7, 5-8 p.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, Charlotte. Mrs. Clifford was born to Mr. and Mrs. John R. Kane, Sept. 4, 1906. She married Gerald Clifford in 1943. He died in 1973. She is a life-long member of the church, Altar and Rosary Society, and American Legion Auxiliary. She had been and organist at the Assumption church for 40 years. Her interests are reading, gardening, knitting and traveling. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Aug. 31, 1991 De Witt Observer
