Another Faith Pioneer Passes Away Tuesday Word, received too late for last week, reached here of the passing of another one of the West River country pioneers and champions, Edward T. Lawler, who passed away on Tuesday, December 18, following several months of failing health. Born in DeWitt, Iowa, in 1860, Mr. Lawler and family moved to the Faith country in 1908 where they have since resided, and have contributed their just share toward the advancement of this ssection. He is survived by his widow, and four children, one son preceeding him in death. Funeral services were conducted at St. Joseph's Church Saturday, Dec. 22nd and interment made in the Catholic Cemetery. He has not returned and no word as to funeral arrangements has been received here as this is written. Faith Independent Wed. 7 Feb 1945 p. 5. ------------ City Briefs Anne Lowler [sic -- djn], 80 years of age, died Sunday at 11:20 at St. Mary's hospital following a lingering illness complicated by pneumonia. Her home was at Faith and it was necessary to contact relatives via WNAX Yakton radio station Sunday afternnon as they have no phone and the Pierre station had completed its hospital broadcast. Daily Capitol Journal Mon., 5 Feb 1945 page 3. ------------ Obituary Anna K. Lawler was born in Ireland on September 2, 1865 and died at Pierre on February 4, 1945. She came to the United States with her parents in 1883 and settled in Iowa. She was married in Iowa more than fifty-five years ago to Edward Lawler. Five children were born of this union, one son dieing in 1932. Surviving her are William Lawler of Faith and two other sons and one daughter. In 1908 the family homesteaded south of Faith and made their home there until the death of the father and husband in 1934 when Mrs. Lawler and her son William moved into Faith. The deceased was baptized in the Catholic faith and lived a Christian life. Funeral services werer held at St. Joseph's Church Friday morning and interrment was made in the Catholic cemetery Faith (SD) Independent 14 Feb 1945 Page 1 ------------ J. Lawler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawler, who live northeast of Sturgis, near Faith, was taken to the State Soldiers hospital at Hot Springs this past week. John Elgin accompanied him. Lawler, an ex-service man, who was taken from Meade county to the Veteran's hospital at Hot Springs, died there last Monday. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawler who live in the northeast part of Meade county. His wife, who lives at Omaha, arrived at Hot Springs a few hours before he died and she took the remains to Omaha, where interment was made.
