MRS. CATHERINE FARRELL The funeral of the late Mrs. Catherine Farrell was held Sunday morning, the procession starting at 9 o'clock from the home of Mrs. Anna Beitemann in De Witt, with a solemn requiem mass at St. Patrick's church in Center Grove about 10:45 o'clock. Father Cone, the pastor, was celebrant, assisted by Father Riordan of Grand Mound and Father Nugent of Mercy hospital. The funeral sermon was preached by Father Riordan and was a beautiful tribute to the deceased. There was a large concourse of friends and mourners at the service which were followed by interment in the Center Grove cemetery. Among the friends and relatives from a distance were a brother, F. R. Lawler of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Burke of Lexington, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Fitzgerald of Cedar Rapids; a son, John Farrell of Alexandria, Minn.; Finton Lawler and daughter, Miss Lillian, of West Side and Miss Mary Foley of Vail. The pall-bearers were near relatives, five grandsons, Joseph and Frank Showalter, George and Joseph Shannon, and Eugene Farrell; three cousins and nephews, George McGarry, John Reed and Michael Welch. The Clinton Herald December 15, 1913 ------------------ LAST RITES FOR CLINTON WOMAN Remains of Mrs. Catherine Farrell at Rest in Center Grove Hundreds of friends of the late Mrs. Catherine Farrell followed her remains to their last resting place in St. Patrick's cemetery, Center Grove, Sunday. The funeral was held from the home of her cousin, Mrs. Beitemann in De Witt, the cortege leaving the residence at 9 o'clock Sunday morning and proceeding to St. Patrick's church in Center Grove, where a solemn requiem high mass was celebrated, officered as follows: Celebrant -- Rev. Father Cone, pastor of the church. Deacon -- Father Riordan, of Grand Mound. Sub-deacon -- Father Nugent, of Mercy hospital. An eloquent funeral sermon was preached by Father Riordan, who had been Mrs. Farrell's pastor when she lived at Center Grove. The funeral was one of the most largely attended ever held in that parish and the large church was crowded during the service. There were many beautiful floral offerings. The pall-bearers included five grandsons of the deceased, Joseph and Frank Showalter of New Hampton, George and Joseph Shannon of New Hampton, and Eugene Farrell of Davenport; also Leo McGarry, John Reid and Michael Welch of Center Grove, relatives of the deceased.
