Mrs. Burke died Thursday, Nov. 1, at her home east of Lost Nation. She co-managed Burke Insurance Agency and was active in many church organizations. The daughter of John and Mame McDevitt McGarry, Marguerite was born in Clinton on September 22, 1908. On August 10, 1931, she married Steve Burke, at Villanova, Iowa. Mrs. Burke is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Al (Marian) Connell, Welton, and Mrs. Florian (Karen) Steffen, Maquoketa; two sons, Ramon, Elwood, and Charles, DeWitt; one sister, Mrs. Leo (Rosalie) Trimble, DeWitt; one brother, Cyril, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers. 7 Nov 1979 Lost Nation Press Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Marguerite Burke, 71, were held on Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lost Nation, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Thomas McConville officiated, assisted by the Revs. Robert Welch, Harold O'Connor, and William O'Connor. Visitation was held after 1 p.m. Sunday at the Haylock O'Hara Funeral Home, Maquoketa. A parish rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Sunday. Pallbearers were Dennis Burke, Mark McDermott, Dan Burke, Jay Gohlman, Larry Burke, Mart Connell, David Burke, and Matt Connell.
