Helene Spain 1959 - 2004 Helene Spain, 45, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at her home in rural Bryant, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville, Iowa. Father Ed Botkin will celebrate the funeral Mass. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Petersville. Pallbearers will be Joe DeVine, Neal Blanche, Mike, Tom and Todd McManus, Josh and Kevin Spain and Andy Hanson. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. She was born Jan. 5, 1959, in Clinton, Iowa, to Ronald and Mary (DeVine) Spain. On Dec. 12, 1987, she was united in marriage to David Cook in DeWitt, Iowa. Helene was a high school English teacher in the Northeast School District and a member of the NCEA. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville. Helene enjoyed snow skiing, music, walking, swimming, bike riding and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, David Cook; three sons all at home, Dylan Lee Cook, Taylor Layne Cook and Riley Daniel Cook; her mother, Mary Spain, DeWitt; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Michael and Nancy Cook, Greenville, S.C.; three sisters, Mary Kay (Mike) McManus, DeWitt, Jo Ellen (Dave) Hanson, Rochester, Minn., and Barbara Ann (Tom) Skoff, Sugar Creek, Iowa; three brothers, Bob Spain, Ankeny, Iowa, Bill (Chris) Spain, Charlotte, Iowa, and Perry (Julene) Spain, Goose Lake, Iowa; and her best friend, Diane (Mrs. David) Noland, Swansboro, N.C.
